Start with the condition

Repair the finish or replace the wheel

A scrape on the edge is a cosmetic job, a crack is not. This is how we sort the damage we see on Dubai cars before anyone talks about paint or price.

Kerb rash on the lip

Scrapes or gouges on the outer edge from parking kerbs and pillars.

Refinish

Scratches and scuffs on the face

Light marks in the paint or clear coat from cleaning or road debris.

Refinish

Peeling lacquer or corrosion

Cloudy, lifting clear coat or white spots under the paint.

Strip and refinish

Chipped diamond cut face

Bright machined face with chips, fading or corrosion creeping under the lacquer.

Inspect, recut or paint

Bent lip or wobble

Vibration at speed or a visible flat spot on the inner or outer rim.

Measure first

Crack in spoke, hub or bead seat

A hairline crack, often found when a tyre keeps losing air.

Replace the wheel

Kerb rash repair

How we repair kerb rash on alloy wheels

Tight parking bays, mall car parks and high kerbs make kerb rash the most common rim damage in Dubai. A shallow scrape is rebuilt and refinished, so the wheel looks right without replacing it.

  1. Check the depthWe look at the lip, barrel and bead area, because a deep gouge or bend changes the job.
  2. Sand and fillLoose paint and raised metal are taken back, and small gouges are filled and shaped to the lip profile.
  3. Prime and colourPrimer seals the repair, then base colour is matched to the wheel in daylight.
  4. Clear coat and blendClear coat protects the colour, and the edge is blended so the repair does not show as a patch.
  5. Refit and balanceThe tyre is refitted, balanced and pressure checked before handover.

A proper kerb rash repair is a layered paint system, not a touch up pen. Filler is never used to hide a crack or bend.

Rim painting in Dubai

Rim painting and refinishing in Dubai

Rim painting restores worn or scuffed wheels, or gives a sound set a new colour. The finish lasts when the old coating is properly prepared, the paint system suits the wheel and the colour and sheen are agreed first.

Different alloy wheel designs and finishes laid out in a workshop
Silver, black and two tone finishes need different preparation.

The most common job is putting a scuffed wheel back to its factory look. We match silver, gunmetal, black or graphite in the right sheen, then clear coat the wheel.

Fade from the Dubai sun and earlier resprays can make one fresh wheel look different. We check the match on the car in daylight and tell you if a full set gives a more even result.

Diamond cut refinishing

Diamond cut wheels need a lathe, not just paint

A diamond cut wheel has a bright machined face under clear lacquer, with painted recesses. Once the lacquer chips, moisture and washing chemicals creep underneath and the face clouds. Restoring it means painting, machining and lacquering again.

  1. Inspect and strip

We check the face for chips, corrosion and earlier recuts, then remove failed lacquer.

  2. Paint the wheel

The wheel is painted in the recess colour so the spokes and inner areas are covered.

  3. Machine the face

A wheel lathe takes a thin cut across the face to bring back the bright machined finish.

  4. Lacquer and cure

Clear lacquer seals the cut face so it stays bright and resists corrosion.

The limit

Every recut removes metal. Wheels that have been cut before, or with deep damage on the face, may not have enough material left. Then the honest options are a painted finish in silver or a replacement wheel, and we tell you which before work starts.

Choose the coating

Powder coating vs wet paint for rims

Both can give a durable finish. The right choice depends on the wheel, the damage and whether you want a repair, a colour change or a diamond cut face.

Powder coating

How it works
Dry powder is sprayed on and baked in an oven to form a thick, hard coat.
Suits
Full colour changes on a stripped wheel, and owners who want a tough finish.
Watch for
The wheel must be fully stripped, and oven temperatures must stay within the wheel maker's limits.

Wet paint

How it works
Primer, base colour and clear coat are sprayed in layers, like car body paint.
Suits
Kerb rash repairs, colour matching, two tone and diamond cut wheels.
Watch for
Quality depends on preparation, so ask how the old coating is removed and what clear coat is used.

For a single scuffed wheel, wet paint is usually the practical route because it can be blended and matched. For a full set colour change, we explain both options after checking the wheels.

Cracked and bent rims

Straightening, welding and when a rim must be replaced

Bent and cracked wheels are safety items, not cosmetic ones. Some damage can be straightened, but a crack in a load bearing area means the wheel should come off the car for good.

May be repairable after checks

  • Light bend on the lip. May be straightened if the wheel maker allows it and runout is measured afterwards.
  • Kerb rash and scuffs. Cosmetic only, refinished as shown above.
  • Air loss at the bead. Often corrosion on the seat, cleaned and sealed if the metal is sound.

Replace the wheel

  • Any crack in a spoke, the hub, the bolt area or the bead seat.
  • Heavy bend or a wheel that will not run true after straightening.
  • Earlier welding or heat repair on a road wheel, or a wheel that has been recut too often.
  • Deep corrosion or impact damage at the mounting face.

Stop driving if a wheel is cracked, a tyre has a bulge or goes flat, or vibration is severe. Park safely and call us about recovery rather than driving to the workshop. Wheel manufacturers' safety guidance warns against welding and heating alloy road wheels, and we follow the wheel maker's limits.

Reference: wheel manufacturers' safety and service instructions.

Find the cause first

Vibration or air loss needs more than paint

A marked rim may be one part of a bigger impact. Tell us what changed, when it happens and whether the tyre pressure warning keeps coming back.

01Vibration while driving

An unbalanced wheel and tyre, a damaged tyre or a bent wheel can all cause vibration. The check separates balance from runout, which is how far the wheel moves out of true as it spins.

A new finish will not fix either problem.

02A tyre keeps losing air

The leak can come from a puncture, the valve, a TPMS valve seal, corrosion on the bead seat or a crack in the wheel. We find the leak before choosing a repair.

Fast air loss needs attention the same day.

03Pulling or uneven tyre wear

We check pressures and tyres first, then steering and suspension. Alignment sets wheel angles, and balancing corrects uneven weight around the wheel and tyre.

Neither is a structural rim repair.

For the difference between the two, see the Michelin alignment and balancing guide. Persistent pulling may need wheel alignment or suspension repair.

Large and forged wheels

Forged and 20 inch plus rims on Dubai SUVs

Big SUVs in Dubai often run 20 to 23 inch wheels with low profile tyres, which kerb easily and cost more to replace. Forged and multi piece wheels need their own checks before any refinish.

A wheel removed beside a raised car during workshop service
Large wheels come off the car for a proper inspection and refinish.

Forged wheels

Usually stronger and lighter than cast wheels, and often costly to replace. We refinish within the maker's heat and machining limits and do not weld them.

Multi piece wheels

Barrels, centres and bolts are separate parts. Refinishing may mean splitting and resealing the wheel, so we quote after inspection.

Replacing a wheel? Fit is more than size

Front and rear sizes may differ, and heavy SUVs and electric cars need the right load rating.

  • Diameter and width
  • Bolt pattern and centre bore
  • Offset and brake clearance
  • Load rating
  • Correct wheel nuts or bolts
  • TPMS sensor and valve fit

After the repair

Tyre fitting and balancing after rim repair

Most rims are refinished off the tyre, so every repaired wheel goes back together on our machines. This is where a good finish can be scratched, so the refit matters as much as the paint.

  • Careful tyre refit. Protective tools so the fresh paint and lip are not marked.
  • New valve or seal where needed. Old rubber valves and sensor seals can leak after removal.
  • Wheel balancing. Weights are placed on the inner barrel where possible so they do not spoil the face.
  • Correct torque. Wheel nuts or bolts are tightened to the maker's figure, and a recheck is advised after a short drive.

Dubai garages list tyre fitting at about AED 40 to 80 and balancing at about AED 50 to 100 per tyre when charged separately (PitStopArabia, March 2026). Your quote shows whether they are included.

TPMS sensor care

Protecting your TPMS sensors during rim work

Most modern cars use tyre pressure sensors mounted on the valve inside each wheel. They are easy to damage when a tyre comes off, so we handle them as part of the rim job, not as an afterthought.

What we do

  • Break the bead away from the sensor
  • Remove or mask the sensor before painting
  • Check the pressure warning after refit

What we avoid

  • Oven curing with the sensor fitted
  • Reusing a perished valve seal
  • Charging for a sensor without telling you first

If a sensor is faulty or a warning stays on, see our sensor replacement service or tyre replacement if the tyre is damaged.

How long it takes

How long rim repair takes in Dubai

Paint needs time to cure, and a rushed job is the main reason finishes fail early. These are planning times from Dubai workshop pages, and your quote confirms the real completion time.

Aftercare and warranty

Keeping refinished rims looking new in Dubai

Strong sun, brake dust and sandy roads are hard on wheel finishes. Simple habits keep the new paint or diamond cut face bright for longer.

First week

Let the finish fully cure. Avoid automatic car washes, strong wheel cleaners and pressure washing close to the wheel.

Every wash

Wash wheels when they are cool, not straight after driving in the afternoon heat. Use a pH neutral wheel cleaner and a soft brush, never abrasive pads.

Parking

Leave a gap from kerbs and pillars in tight car parks, and use parking sensors or cameras when pulling in close.

Warranty

Ask for any finish warranty in writing with its period, care rules and exclusions. New kerb hits, tyre damage and structural faults are normally not covered.

Car rim repair questions

Straight answers on price, time, safety limits and finishes for rim repair in Dubai.

How much does rim repair cost in Dubai?

Cosmetic rim repair in Dubai usually costs about AED 150 to 550 per wheel as a guide, based on published Dubai workshop prices checked in October 2026. Full refurbishment can reach AED 1,200 per wheel. Mechanics confirms your price in a written quote after a free inspection.

Can kerb rash be repaired without replacing the wheel?

Yes, most kerb rash on the rim lip can be repaired by sanding, filling, priming and refinishing the damaged area. Replacement is only needed when the gouge is deep, the lip is bent or cracked, or the damage reaches the tyre bead seat.

Can a cracked or bent alloy wheel be repaired?

A crack in the spokes, hub or bead seat means the wheel should be replaced, not welded. A light bend on the outer lip may be straightened only if the wheel maker allows it and runout checks pass afterwards. We inspect before recommending either route.

Can a diamond cut wheel be refinished?

Often yes. The face is painted, machined on a wheel lathe to recreate the bright cut finish, then clear coated. Each cut removes a little metal, so wheels already cut several times, or with deep damage, may need painting or replacement instead.

Is powder coating better than painting rims?

Neither is always better. Powder coating gives a thick, tough finish but needs the wheel stripped and oven cured within the maker's temperature limits. Wet paint suits repairs, colour matching and diamond cut wheels. We advise the right system after checking the wheel.

Can you change my rim colour or do a two tone finish?

Yes. A sound set of wheels can be refinished in a new colour, in gloss, satin or matt, or as a two tone with painted recesses and a contrasting or machined face. We agree the colour and sheen on a sample before preparation starts.

How long does rim repair and painting take?

One painted wheel is often ready in about a day, and Dubai workshops publish about one to two days for a set of four. Diamond cut work, powder coating, straightening and colour changes can take longer. We confirm the completion time on your quote.

Are tyre fitting and balancing included in rim repair?

Not always, so check the written quote. Rims are usually painted off the tyre, so the job includes removing, refitting and balancing each tyre. Dubai garages list fitting at about AED 40 to 80 and balancing at about AED 50 to 100 per tyre when charged separately.

Will rim repair affect my TPMS sensors?

It should not, if the tyre is removed with care and the sensor is protected during painting. Valve seals and nuts can need replacing when the tyre comes off. We check the pressure warning after refitting and tell you before any sensor part is charged.

Can you match one wheel to the other three?

Usually, but not always perfectly. Sun fade, metallic paint and earlier repairs can make one fresh wheel look different from three older ones. We compare the finish in daylight and tell you if refinishing the full set gives a better result.

Does rim repair come with a warranty?

Ask for the finish warranty in writing on your quote, with its period, care rules and exclusions. Cosmetic finish cover normally does not include new kerb impacts, tyre damage or structural faults found later. We explain the terms before you approve the work.

Where can I get rim repair in Dubai outside the dealer?

Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai repairs and refinishes alloy wheels for all makes, including kerb rash, rim painting, diamond cut and two tone work. You get a free inspection and a written quote first. Wheels covered by a factory warranty claim stay with your dealer.
