Audi paint protection filmMost Audi problems follow the engine or gearbox, not the badge. A Q5, A4 and A5 share the same 2.0 TFSI and S tronic, so they share the same weak points. Pick a system to see what goes wrong and how it is fixed.
The most common Audi engine in Dubai, found in the A3, A4, A5, A6, Q3, Q5 and TT.
Timing chain tensioner wear on 2008 to 2013 engines. Ignored, the chain can jump and damage the engine.
Second generation engines can consume oil through the piston rings and crankcase breather (PCV) valve.
Plastic water pump and thermostat housing leaks, and an electric coolant pump recall on 2012 to 2017 cars.
Carbon build up on the intake valves of direct injection engines, worn coil packs or a failed PCV valve.
Smooth and strong, used in the A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, S4 and S5.
The most frequent repair on this engine, often found as a coolant smell or a low coolant warning.
Heat makes the plastic crack, causing vacuum leaks, rough running and oil consumption.
Hesitation and misfires as carbon builds up, usually cleaned around 100,000 to 130,000 km.
Misfiring coils, and a timing chain rattle on some 2011 to 2014 engines.
The engine behind the S6, S7, S8, A8, RS6, RS7 and RS Q8.
A recall on 2013 to 2017 S6, S7, S8, A8 and RS7 cars fitted a new oil strainer, as a clogged one can starve the turbos of oil.
Check levels between services, especially on hard driven RS models.
The turbos sit inside the V, so hoses, seals and coolant parts age faster in Dubai heat.
Heavy, powerful cars wear brakes and tyres quickly. Carbon ceramic discs are measured before replacing.
Fast shifting, but sensitive to heat, traffic and skipped oil changes. Transverse cars such as the A3, Q3 and TT use the DQ200, DQ250 or DQ381, longitudinal cars such as the A4, A5, A6 and Q5 the DL501 or DL382.
Clutch engagement and adaptation issues, often improved with an oil service and a basic setting.
Loss of odd or even gears points to the mechatronic unit, a known weak point on the 7 speed DQ200 and the 6 speed DQ250 in older A3, Q3 and TT models.
Pressure, sensor or clutch pack faults stored in the gearbox control unit. A scan shows which.
Audi schedules S tronic oil at 60,000 km on the A4, A6 and Q5. Old oil shortens clutch and mechatronic life.
Fitted to the A6 allroad, A7, A8, Q7, Q8 and e-tron. Heat ages the rubber air springs.
A leaking air spring or valve block lets the car sink overnight.
The compressor works overtime to make up for a leak, then overheats and fails.
Audi issued a bulletin for compressors that stop working on Q7, A8 and A6 and A7 models, often a burnt out relay.
Worn struts or damper control faults, checked with a scan and a leak test.
Modern Audis are networks of control units. Many faults need software, coding or a battery check, not new parts.
A known MMI 3G+ issue on 2010 to 2016 A4 to A8, Q5 and Q7, fixed by Audi with a software update.
Usually a weak battery. Audi batteries must be the correct type and registered after fitting.
Low voltage, sensors or wiring can trigger several warnings at once. A full scan finds the root fault.
Key fob batteries, programming and door lock modules.
Fewer moving parts, but still brakes, tyres, suspension, 12 volt electrics and body work to look after.
2019 to 2022 e-tron models had a manufacturer recall for high voltage battery modules, and earlier cars one for a charge socket seal. Ask the UAE dealer to check your VIN.
A weak 12 volt battery can stop an e-tron from starting even with a charged main battery.
The same air spring and compressor checks as the Q7 and Q8.
Heavy cars wear tyres fast. Brakes can corrode from little use thanks to regeneration.
Fault patterns from Audi technical service bulletins, recall notices and specialist guides. A symptom is always tested before any part is replaced.
Mechanics is an independent Audi repair workshop in Al Quoz, Dubai. We service and repair the Q5, Q7, Q8, A3, A4, A5, A6, RS models and e-tron, from S tronic and TFSI engine faults to air suspension, with a free inspection and a written quote first. Warranty and recall work belongs at Al Nabooda Automobiles, the official Audi dealer.
The Q5 is the most listed used Audi in Dubai, followed by the Q7, A5 and Q8. Here is what to watch on each.
2.0 TFSI water pump and oil use, S tronic oil at 60,000 km.
Air suspension leaks, 3.0 TFSI cooling parts, brakes and tyres.
DQ381 or DQ250 gearbox behaviour, carbon build up, coil packs.
MMI software, air suspension on the A8 and allroad, 3.0 TFSI leaks.
4.0 TFSI turbo oil supply recall, brakes, tyres and heat management.
A red coolant or oil warning, or a flashing engine light, means stop safely and call. The EPC light, gearbox warnings and most yellow warnings can usually be driven carefully to the workshop. If in doubt, ask us first.
Low coolant from a water pump or thermostat housing leak, or a failed pump.
Very low oil or a pressure fault. Driving on can destroy the engine.
A severe misfire, often a coil pack, that can damage the catalytic converter.
Electronic power control fault: throttle, sensors, brake light switch or low voltage.
S tronic mechatronic, sensor or clutch fault. The car may only drive in some gears.
The engine needs oil. On some 2.0 TFSI engines, a sign of oil consumption.
An air suspension leak, compressor or valve block fault.
Usually a weak battery, or one fitted without being registered to the car.

An Audi is a network of control units. Fitting a part is often only half the job: the car also needs coding, an adaptation or a software update before it works properly.
A new battery must be registered so the car charges it correctly.
After an oil change or mechatronic repair, the gearbox relearns its clutch points.
Rear brake pads need the parking brake opened and reset with software.
Throttle bodies and some sensors need a basic setting after cleaning or fitting.
Audi dealers use the factory ODIS system, which also delivers official software updates. When a fix needs a dealer only update, such as the MMI 3G+ software, we tell you before you pay for anything.
Dubai independent garages publish an Audi 15,000 km service from about AED 899 and a 60,000 km service from about AED 2,999. A Q7 costs more than an A3 because of oil capacity and parts. Gearbox, air suspension and engine work are quoted per car after inspection.

Recall notice
Summer temperatures and long idling in traffic are hard on the parts Audi makes from plastic and rubber. A quick check before summer avoids most breakdowns.
Heat shortens battery life, sometimes to 18 months.
Water pump and thermostat housings crack and leak with age.
Heat ages air springs and seals faster on air suspension cars.
Dust blocks condensers and compressors work at full load.
Your quote shows which type of part is used, so you choose between cost and originality. Safety and engine critical parts are never fitted below the original specification.
The same part the dealer fits, in Audi packaging. Best for newer cars and anything you want exactly original.
Made by the supplier that builds the part for Audi, often for less. A common choice for filters, brakes, ignition and cooling parts.
Reputable brands for wear items on older Audis, matched to the original specification. Only used with your approval.
With around 800 used Audis listed in Dubai, there is plenty of choice, and plenty of cars with hidden problems. An inspection checks the gearbox, oil use, cooling system and electronics before you commit.

Audi was founded by August Horch in 1909. The four rings stand for the four companies that joined to form Auto Union in 1932: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. Audi introduced quattro all wheel drive in 1980 and is based in Ingolstadt as part of the Volkswagen Group.
Founded by August Horch, the name Audi is Latin for his surname, "listen".
Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer join as Auto Union, the four rings.
The Audi quattro brings permanent all wheel drive to road cars.
Built in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, sharing engines across the VW Group.

Ask on WhatsAppAn Audi 15,000 km service in Dubai starts from about AED 899 as a guide, based on prices published by Dubai independent garages, with the 30,000 km service from about AED 1,899 and the 60,000 km service from about AED 2,999. SUVs like the Q7 cost more than an A3. Send your model, year and mileage for an exact written quote.
Audi schedules an oil service every 15,000 km or 12 months and an inspection service every 30,000 km or 24 months. Brake fluid is changed every two years, and spark plugs around 60,000 km or six years. In Dubai heat and traffic, sticking to the 12 month oil service is wise even at low mileage.
Audi lists S tronic oil at 60,000 km on the A4, A6 and Q5 with the longitudinal gearbox. Skipping it is one of the most common causes of jerky shifting and mechatronic faults. After the oil change, the gearbox should be adapted with diagnostic software.
Low speed judder usually comes from clutch engagement and adaptation, old gearbox oil or a mechatronic fault. A scan and road test show which. Many cars improve with an oil service and a basic setting, so the expensive mechatronic or clutch repair is only quoted when the tests point to it.
Some second generation 2.0 TFSI engines consume oil through the piston rings and the crankcase breather valve. A worn PCV valve on the 3.0 TFSI can also raise oil use. We check for leaks, test the breather system and measure consumption before recommending a repair.
Yes. A rattle for a few seconds on a cold start can mean a worn timing chain tensioner, a known issue on 2008 to 2013 2.0 TFSI engines. If the chain jumps a tooth it can badly damage the engine, so have it checked promptly rather than waiting for the next service.
It depends on your warranty terms, so check them first if the car is still covered. Warranty repairs, recalls and official software updates should go to Al Nabooda Automobiles, the official Audi dealer, where they are free. For servicing and repairs on cars out of warranty, an independent workshop is a normal choice.
Yes. We find the leak first with a leak test and a scan, then quote the air spring, strut, valve block or compressor that has actually failed. Replacing a compressor without fixing the leak only makes the new one fail too, so the cause is always confirmed.
Yes, we service and repair Audi Sport models including the RS3, RS6, RS7, RS Q8 and R8. These use high performance brakes, tyres and fluids, so tell us the exact model when you book and we confirm parts and timing in advance.
We handle the e-tron's 12 volt systems, brakes, tyres, suspension, body work and detailing. High voltage battery work and recall campaigns go to the Audi dealer. Send us the model and the problem and we tell you straight away which applies.
