The 6.2 V8 recall in plain words
GM issued a manufacturer recall for about 598,000 trucks and SUVs with the 6.2 litre V8 because connecting rods or crankshafts may have manufacturing defects that can damage the engine. The dealer inspects the engine, repairs or replaces it if needed, and otherwise switches it to a thicker oil.
Recall work is free at the official dealer. Ask the UAE dealer to check your VIN first. We handle everything outside the recall.
5.3 and 6.2 V8
Ticking GMC V8? Check the lifters
GM's small block V8s in the Yukon and Sierra, the 5.3 (L83, L84) and 6.2 (L86, L87), shut down cylinders to save fuel using Active Fuel Management or the later Dynamic Fuel Management. Owners and GM bulletins link this system to lifter failures, which can damage the camshaft if ignored.
Ticking or tapping
A light tick from the top of the engine, often louder at idle or once warm, is the classic early sign of a lifter starting to fail.
Misfire codes
A collapsed lifter stops a valve opening properly. You feel a rough idle, lose power and may see a flashing engine light.
Oil level and grade
Lifters rely on clean oil at the right pressure. Running low or using the wrong grade makes failures more likely.

We read misfire counts per cylinder, check oil pressure and listen with the engine hot. Catching it early can save the camshaft.
Gearboxes
GMC gearbox shudder, slip or hard shifts
GMC trucks and SUVs have used the 6L80 6 speed, 8L90 8 speed and 10L80 10 speed automatics. We scan, check fluid condition and road test before recommending any work.
A shudder at steady speed is often the torque converter. GM issued a fluid change bulletin for some trucks.
Busy shifting is normal. Harsh or late shifts need a scan, software check and adaptive relearn.

Cold Yukon AC in all three rows
A Yukon has front and rear AC, long refrigerant lines and a cooling system working hard in July traffic. When the rear blows warm, the cause is often a leak in those rear lines.
Leak test
We test the front and rear AC circuits separately. Rear lines run under the body and are the usual place a Yukon loses gas.
Compressor and condenser
System pressures tell us whether the compressor, condenser or a blockage is at fault, before any part is quoted.
Radiator and fans
A tired radiator or a slow fan makes the AC weaker in traffic. We check both before the summer peak.
Battery
Heat shortens battery life on big SUVs. A battery test at every visit avoids a no start in a car park.

Denali and AT4 models add suspension, electronics and comfort features that need careful checks.
Adaptive suspension
Denali and AT4 models use adaptive dampers, and some have air suspension. A leaking shock or a suspension warning is read by scan before parts are ordered.
Ride height
A Yukon that sits low on one corner after standing overnight usually has a leak. We check each corner and the compressor, then quote.
Cameras and sensors
Fine dust and heat affect parking sensors, cameras and their wiring. We clean, test and repair before replacing anything.
Infotainment
Frozen screens, Bluetooth drops and dead speakers are often software. We scan the modules and update or repair as needed.

Sierra AT4, Canyon, Yukon
GMC checks after a weekend in the desert
Sand and heavy loads wear brakes, wheel bearings, shocks and 4x4 fluids. A check after desert trips stops small faults growing.
Brakes and bearings
Sand gets between pads and discs and into wheel bearings. We clean it out and measure wear before it turns into a grinding noise.
Transfer case
We check the fluid and that 4 high and 4 low engage cleanly. Dunes and towing load the 4x4 system hard.
Shocks and bushes
Leaking shocks and worn bushes show up on the lift as oil marks and play. They make the truck wander on the motorway.
Air filter
A filter full of sand costs power and fuel. It is cleaned or replaced after dusty trips.

On the 8 speed automatic, a shudder at steady speed often comes from the torque converter, and GM issued a fluid change bulletin for some trucks. We scan and road test to confirm before any work.
