Range Rover care at a glance
On 2010 to 2012 Range Rovers with the Jaguar Land Rover AJ133 5.0 V8, timing chain tensioners and guides wear. The giveaway is a rattle for the first few seconds after a cold start, before oil pressure builds.
Fixing it means taking the engine out, so it is not a small job. Catching it early stops the chain jumping, which can wreck the engine. We always listen on a true cold start, first thing in the morning.

Every full size Range Rover since the P38 of 1994 uses air suspension as standard, and it is the most common repair. A fault in one of these four parts makes the car sag, sit unevenly or show a suspension warning. We test first, then quote for the part that has actually failed.
Rubber bags that crack with age, heat and sand. A corner that drops overnight is the classic sign.
Fills the system with air. A leak makes it run too long until it overheats and fails.
Tell the system how high each corner sits. A bad sensor gives false heights and warnings.
Sends air to each corner. When it sticks or leaks, the car will not rise or lower properly.

Some Range Rover faults show up inside the car rather than under the bonnet. These two are well known and worth checking before summer.
On 2017 L405 models, water can get in through the windscreen seal and A pillar. Land Rover issued a bulletin to rebond the screen.
What we do: water test the car, find the entry point and dry the electrics before they corrode.
A failed blend door actuator inside the dash mixes air wrongly. On some models the dash must come out to reach it.

The 2018 to 2021 L405 models are the most reliable recent Range Rover years, and 2007 to 2009 are the best L322 years, according to a reliability guide. 2017 and 2010 to 2012 need the most careful checks.
