Two kinds of Chevrolet

Chevrolet big V8s and small turbo crossovers

The Chevrolets on Dubai roads come from two very different families. A Tahoe and a new Captiva share a badge, but almost nothing mechanical, so they need different care.

Big V8 trucks and SUVs

Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, Camaro, Corvette

Big V8 or V6 engines, rear or four wheel drive and heavy duty automatics.

  • Lifters on 5.3 and 6.2 V8s with cylinder deactivation
  • 8 and 10 speed automatics and their fluid
  • 4WD transfer cases on SUVs and trucks
  • Brakes and tyres on heavy, fast vehicles
Small turbo crossovers

Captiva 2020 on, Groove, Spark

Small turbo or non turbo engines with CVT gearboxes and front wheel drive. The 2020 GCC Captiva is built by SAIC-GM-Wuling and is a rebadged Baojun 530, closely related to the MG Hector.

  • CVT gearbox care and fluid condition
  • Turbo engine oil changed on time in the heat
  • AC performance in summer
  • Brakes, suspension and electronics

Chevrolet 5.3 and 6.2 V8s and their lifters

GM's EcoTec3 V8s, the 5.3 litre L84 and 6.2 litre L87 in 2021 on Tahoes and Silverados, save fuel by switching off cylinders using special lifters (Dynamic Fuel Management). When a lifter fails you get a tick, a misfire and the engine light, and driving on can damage the camshaft.

2021 service update

GM replaced lifters on some 2021 Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado V8s with a broken lifter lock pin spring.

Symptoms

A tick that does not fade, misfire codes, rough running and the engine light.

10L80 10 speed gearbox

Harsh shifts or shudder can come from a twisted cooler line or the thermal bypass valve.

4WD system

Transfer case and front axle checked on trucks and SUVs.

6.2 V8 engine recall, 2021 to 2024

A manufacturer recall covers Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado 1500 models with the 6.2 litre L87 V8 built between 1 March 2021 and 31 May 2024 over possible connecting rod or crankshaft problems. Ask the UAE dealer to check your VIN. Recall report

Captiva and Groove

Captiva and Groove turbo engines and CVT gearboxes

The Captiva from the 2020 model year, with a 1.5 litre turbo, and the Groove use small engines and CVT automatic gearboxes. They are cheap to run when serviced on time, and Dubai heat is the main thing that shortens their life.

CVT care

Check fluid condition, and report any slipping, whine or hesitation early.

Turbo oil

Small turbos run hot. Change the oil every 10,000 km or 12 months.

Older Captiva, to 2018

2.4 four cylinder and 3.0 V6 engines with a conventional automatic. Check timing chain noise and leaks.

Cooling and AC

Radiator, fans and AC checked before every summer.

Camaro and Corvette

Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette need precise care

Camaros and Corvettes are common in Dubai, with over 100 listed for sale on dubizzle. Their faults are well known and most are cheaper to fix early.

8 speed shudder

Common on 2016 to 2019 Camaros. A fluid exchange often helps.

Rear differential groan

Noise in slow turns on 2016 and 2017 cars with a limited slip differential.

Brakes and tyres

Big brakes and wide tyres wear fast with spirited driving.

Corvette C7 and C8

Cooling, brakes, tyres, fluids and the C8's Tremec eight speed dual clutch gearbox.

Dubai summer care

Chevrolet AC, cooling and batteries in Dubai

Tahoes and Suburbans have rear AC and big cabins. Summer heat finds weak points in the AC, cooling system and battery first.

AC leak test

Weak cooling usually means a slow leak or a tired compressor.

Rear AC

Rear evaporator and lines checked on seven and eight seat SUVs.

Cooling system

Water pump, radiator and fans checked before July.

Battery

Heat shortens battery life. We test before it fails.

Why trust this page

How we wrote and priced this Chevrolet guide

Dealer prices, faults and recalls on this page come from named sources, and every price is labelled as a guide.

  1. Sources we checked

Dealer menus from the Al Ghandi Chevrolet schedule (valid from 1 May 2024) and the Bin Hamoodah schedule (valid from 1 August 2022), DriveArabia on the Captiva (November 2019), GM Authority on lifters (December 2021), the Motor1 recall report (2025), Engine Patrol on the Camaro, and dubizzle listings and showroom guide (checked October 2026).

  2. How we price

Dealer and third party prices are guides, not our tariff. Your real price comes from a free inspection and a written, itemised quote, with genuine, ACDelco and aftermarket parts priced side by side.

  3. What we send elsewhere

Warranty repairs, recalls such as the 6.2 L87 engine campaign and software updates go to the official dealer, Al Ghandi Auto in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, or Bin Hamoodah in Abu Dhabi.

  4. Who reviews it

The Mechanics workshop team in Al Quoz reviews this page when dealer terms, recalls or prices change. Last update 14 October 2026.

Chevrolet repair questions answered

Service prices, intervals, V8 lifters, recalls, CVTs and performance cars.

Ask on WhatsApp
How much is a Chevrolet service at the dealer in the UAE?

A dealer 10,000 km service costs about AED 491 for a 2021 to 2025 Captiva and AED 1,073 for a 2021 to 2025 Tahoe, based on published UAE dealer menus that include parts, labour and VAT. The biggest services reach AED 1,635 for the Captiva at 60,000 km and AED 2,482 for the Tahoe at 70,000 km. Prices can change.

How often should a Chevrolet be serviced in the UAE?

UAE Chevrolet dealers schedule a service every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first, or when the Oil Life Monitor says the oil is due. Bigger services with filters, plugs and fluids fall at set mileages in the schedule.

Is my Tahoe or Silverado part of the 6.2 V8 engine recall?

It may be, if it has the 6.2 litre L87 V8 and was built between 1 March 2021 and 31 May 2024. GM recalled these Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado 1500 models over connecting rod and crankshaft problems. The 5.3 litre V8 was not part of that recall. Ask the UAE dealer to check your VIN.

Why does my Tahoe tick or misfire?

On 5.3 and 6.2 V8s with cylinder deactivation, a failed lifter is a common cause of a tick, misfire codes and the engine light. GM replaced lifters on some 2021 trucks and SUVs before sale. We scan the engine and inspect the lifters before quoting.

What engine and gearbox does the new Captiva have?

A 1.5 litre turbo engine with a CVT gearbox and front wheel drive. The 2020 on GCC Captiva is built by SAIC-GM-Wuling and is a rebadged Baojun 530, closely related to the MG Hector. Older Captivas, up to 2018, used a 2.4 litre four cylinder or a V6 with a conventional automatic.

How do I look after a CVT gearbox in Dubai?

Service the car on schedule, have the CVT fluid condition checked, and avoid hard launches in heavy traffic. Report slipping, a whine or a delay when pulling away early, as small problems are cheaper to fix before they damage the gearbox.

Why does my Camaro shudder or shift harshly?

Shudder and harsh shifts are known on 2016 to 2019 Camaros with the 8 speed automatic. A gearbox fluid exchange often improves it. We road test the car and scan the gearbox before recommending any bigger repair.

Why does my Camaro groan in slow turns?

On 2016 and 2017 Camaros with a limited slip differential, a groan in slow turns is a known issue, often after the car has been parked. A differential fluid service with the correct additive usually helps. We check the differential first.

Do you service the Corvette?

Yes. We service and repair the C6, C7 and mid engine C8 Corvette, including cooling, brakes, tyres, fluids and diagnostics. Tell us the exact model and year when you book so we can confirm parts.

Will an independent service affect my Chevrolet warranty?

Warranty repairs, recalls and software updates should go to the Chevrolet dealer, Al Ghandi Auto in Dubai, where they are free. For cars out of warranty, an independent workshop is a normal choice. Check your own warranty terms before booking work on a car that is still covered.

Where can I get my Chevrolet repaired in Dubai outside the dealer?

Mechanics in Al Quoz is an independent Chevrolet workshop for the Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado 1500 and HD, Captiva, Groove, Camaro and Corvette, covering engines, gearboxes, 4WD, brakes, suspension and AC. You get a free inspection and a written quote first. Warranty and recall work stays with Al Ghandi Auto, the official Chevrolet dealer.

Can you inspect a used Chevrolet before I buy it?

Yes. We check the engine, gearbox, underbody, AC and electronics, look for open recalls, and advise on import history checks for salvage and mileage, then send a written report with photos. This matters for imported or non GCC spec Tahoes, Camaros and Corvettes.
