The most expensive surprise

Rolls-Royce air suspension is where the money goes

Every modern Rolls-Royce rides on air. The air springs, struts and compressor give that famous magic carpet ride, but they age with heat and time, even on cars that are barely driven.

One Ghost owner listed AED 135,000 in dealer suspension work on a car with only 34,400 km. Not every leak needs four new struts. We test which corner is losing air, whether the compressor or a valve is at fault, and quote only what the car needs.

Leaning or sagging

Suspension warning

A message on the dash or a hard ride.

You hear it work after every start.

Uneven tyre wear

Ride height errors wear tyres unevenly.

The V12 engines

The Rolls-Royce twin turbo V12 still needs care

Rolls-Royce has been part of the BMW Group since 2003, and its modern V12s are BMW based: the 6.6 litre twin turbo N74B66 in the first Ghost, Wraith and Dawn, and the 6.75 litre twin turbo N74B68 in the Phantom VIII, Cullinan and second Ghost, all with a ZF 8 speed automatic. The Phantom VII used a naturally aspirated 6.75 litre V12. They are strong, but a misfire or overheating in our climate needs fast attention.

Ignition

Coils and spark plugs

Worn coils cause misfires, a known Cullinan check.

Fuel

Pump and injectors

Fuel system faults show up on higher mileage cars.

Cooling

Auxiliary water pumps

Small turbo cooling pumps can fail and cause local overheating.

Seals

Oil and coolant leaks

Gaskets and hoses age faster in heat and long idling.

The details that make it a Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce electrics, comfort and craftsmanship

Many Rolls-Royce faults are not mechanical at all. They are the special features owners love most, and they need patient, careful diagnosis.

Cabin

Starlight headliner

Fibre optic stars that go dark usually trace back to the light source or wiring, not the headliner itself.

Doors

Coach doors and closers

Power closing and soft close mechanisms need careful adjustment, never forcing.

Climate

AC and climate control

Big cabins work the AC hard in Dubai. Electrical gremlins in the climate system are a known Ghost complaint.

Electronics

Infotainment and modules

Software glitches are common. We scan every module and test the battery before chasing faults.

An honest comparison

Rolls-Royce dealer or independent workshop?

AGMC represents Rolls-Royce in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Abu Dhabi Motors in the capital. Some work belongs there. The rest is your choice.

Under warranty

Use the dealer

New cars carry a 4 year, unlimited mileage warranty, and extended cover can be bought through the dealer. Claims and recalls go to the dealer.

Provenance pre-owned

Check your cover

Certified pre-owned cars from the dealer come with their own warranty. Use it before paying anywhere else.

Old and new

From the electric Spectre to the Silver Shadow

Rolls-Royce now spans a fully electric coupe and classics that are fifty years old. Each needs a different approach.

Spectre

The electric Rolls-Royce

High voltage battery and drive work belongs with the dealer. We look after the rest of the car: tyres, alignment, brakes, AC, the 12V battery and bodywork, with the same care as any Rolls-Royce.

Classic Rolls-Royce

Silver Shadow, Spur and Seraph

Older cars need patient work on aged rubber, hydraulics, wiring and cooling, and honest advice on what to fix now and what can wait.

Buying a used Rolls-Royce?

Check a used Rolls-Royce before you pay

A used Ghost can cost a fraction of its new price in Dubai. A tired air suspension alone can cost more than a family car, so the inspection is the best money you will spend.

Why trust this page

How we checked this Rolls-Royce guide

Every fact links to the source we read, and every price is a third party guide, never our tariff. This is how we keep it honest.

Sources we checked

Service guides from Lookinsure and Policybazaar UAE (updated 17 April 2025), a 2014 Ghost listing and the dubizzle used guide, CarsCounsel, PartsOnClick UAE, VinCheck and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, all checked 13 October 2026.

How we price

Third party prices are guides only. Your real price comes from a free inspection and a written, itemised quote, with genuine and quality aftermarket parts shown side by side where both exist.

What we send elsewhere

Warranty claims, recalls and Spectre high voltage work go to the official dealer, AGMC in Dubai or Abu Dhabi Motors in Abu Dhabi. We tell you when a fault belongs there.

Who reviews it

Rolls-Royce repair questions answered

Service costs, air suspension, the V12, warranty and used cars.

Ask on WhatsApp
How much does a Rolls-Royce service cost in Dubai?

A Rolls-Royce minor service in Dubai costs around AED 3,000 at an independent workshop and around AED 5,000 at the dealer, and a major service around AED 9,000 against around AED 15,000, as a guide based on Lookinsure. The exact price depends on the model and what is due.

What is the most common Rolls-Royce problem?

Air suspension. The air springs, struts and compressor that give the famous ride age with heat and time, causing leaning, warnings and a harsh ride. It is also the most expensive common repair.

How much does Rolls-Royce air suspension repair cost?

Rolls-Royce air suspension repair can pass AED 100,000 at the dealer if every strut is replaced. One 2014 Ghost owner listed AED 90,000 for the front struts and AED 45,000 for the rear. We test each corner first and replace only what has failed.

Why is my Rolls-Royce leaning to one side?

A car that sits low at one corner after parking usually has a leaking air spring, strut, line or valve. Fixing it early can save the compressor, which overworks to make up for the leak.

What causes a misfire on a Rolls-Royce V12?

Worn ignition coils and spark plugs are a common cause, and fuel pump or injector faults can appear on higher mileage cars. A scan and coil test usually find it quickly.

What warranty does a new Rolls-Royce have in the UAE?

A new Rolls-Royce carries a 4 year, unlimited mileage warranty, and extended cover can be bought through the dealer. Warranty and recall work goes to AGMC in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, or Abu Dhabi Motors in Abu Dhabi.

Do you service the Rolls-Royce Spectre?

Yes, for tyres, alignment, brakes, AC, the 12V battery and bodywork. High voltage battery and drive work goes to the dealer.

Do you repair classic Rolls-Royces?

Yes, including the Silver Shadow, Silver Spur and Silver Seraph, with careful work on aged rubber, hydraulics, wiring and cooling.

Can you inspect a used Rolls-Royce before I buy it?

Yes. We test the air suspension, check the V12 for misfires and leaks, scan every module, test the interior features, review dealer history and recalls, then send a report with photos.

Where can I get my Rolls-Royce repaired in Dubai outside the dealer?

Mechanics in Al Quoz is an independent Rolls-Royce workshop for the Ghost, Cullinan, Phantom, Wraith, Dawn and classic models, covering servicing, air suspension, the V12, AC and electrics. You get a free inspection and a written quote first. Warranty and recall work stays with AGMC, the official dealer in Dubai.

What engine does the Rolls-Royce Cullinan use?

The Cullinan uses a 6.75 litre twin turbo V12, the BMW based N74B68, with a ZF 8 speed automatic and all wheel drive. The same engine family powers the Phantom VIII and the second generation Ghost.

Does a Rolls-Royce need special care in the Dubai heat?

Yes. Heat ages the air springs, rubber seals, coolant hoses and the 12V battery faster, and long idling with the AC on works the V12 cooling system hard. A check of the air suspension, cooling system and battery before summer catches most problems early.

What signs mean my Rolls-Royce needs attention now?

A car that sits low on one corner, a suspension or chassis warning, a rough idle, a rising temperature gauge, AC that loses its chill in traffic or new knocks over bumps. Book a check soon, as small faults on these cars become costly when ignored.
