Why does my Isuzu D-Max tick on a cold start?
A ticking from the top of the engine that is loudest when cold usually means the valve clearances have opened up. They should be checked and adjusted about every 40,000 km, with new injector seals and a rocker cover gasket.
How often should D-Max valve clearances be done?
About every 40,000 km. It is not part of a basic oil service, so many trucks miss it. We measure every valve and adjust it with the screws and locknuts.
Why does my Isuzu show a DPF warning?
The particulate filter fills with soot on short suburban trips. About half an hour of highway driving at least once a month keeps it clear. If it blocks anyway, it needs a workshop clean or replacement.
Should I block off the EGR valve on my D-Max?
No. Blocking it can cause other problems. Cleaning it at service time keeps it working, and a badly stuck valve can be removed and cleaned.
Is it safe to tow with an automatic D-Max or MU-X?
Yes, but watch the gearbox temperature. The warning light comes on around 134°C, which is already too hot. Shift down manually on long climbs, check the fluid, and consider an extra cooler for regular towing.
Why does my D-Max click when turning?
A click clack on tight turns usually points to a worn front CV joint. Check the rubber boots for splits, as dirt getting in speeds up the wear.
Can you inspect a used Isuzu before I buy it?
Yes. We check the cold start, service history, DPF, gearbox fluid, springs, CV joints, bearings, chassis and underbody, then send a report with photos.
