Car oil change in Dubai, done right
Fresh oil in the exact grade and approval your engine was designed for, a new filter, and a proper check of everything around it. Book at our Al Quoz workshop or let us collect the car from anywhere in Dubai.
- Correct oil grade and approval
- New oil filter and drain washer
- Fluid levels and leak check
- Service reminder reset
Is your oil change due?
Enter roughly how far and how long since your last oil change. The checker allows for the oil type and the way cars are actually driven in Dubai.
This is a guide based on common service intervals. Your owner's manual or the service reminder on your dashboard is the final word, and some engines need shorter intervals than shown here.
More than draining and refilling
A cheap oil change skips the parts that matter. Every oil change at Mechanics covers all of this as standard.
- 01Right oil for your engineGrade and approval matched to your manual, such as MB 229.5, VW 504 00 or BMW Longlife.
- 02New oil filterOEM or equivalent quality. A new oil with an old filter is half a job.
- 03New drain plug washerA reused washer is the most common cause of a slow drip after a service.
- 04Fluid level checkCoolant, brake fluid, power steering and washer fluid checked and topped up.
- 05Leak and condition checkSump, filter housing, gaskets and belts looked at while the car is on the lift.
- 06Reminder reset and recyclingService light reset where your car allows it. Used oil and filters go for proper recycling.
Which oil does your car actually need?
The answer is printed in your owner's manual: a viscosity grade and a manufacturer approval. We follow that, not whatever is on offer that week.
Mineral
Refined crude oil. Fine for some older and simpler engines, but it breaks down fastest in heat.
- Typical interval
- About 5,000 km
- Best for
- Older engines
Semi synthetic
A blend of mineral and synthetic base oils. Better heat resistance at a moderate price.
- Typical interval
- About 7,500 km
- Best for
- Everyday older cars
Full synthetic
Engineered base oils that stay stable at high temperatures. Required by most modern, turbocharged and European engines.
- Typical interval
- 10,000 to 15,000 km
- Best for
- Most cars today
- 5W is how thin the oil stays when the engine is cold. The lower the number, the faster it reaches the parts at start up.
- 30 is how thick it stays at full operating temperature. This is the number that matters most in Dubai summer traffic.
- The approval code on the bottle matters as much as the grade. Two 5W-30 oils can have very different additives, so we match the approval your engine maker specifies.
Your oil change, step by step

Drain warm oil
The car goes on the lift with the engine warm, so the old oil and the dirt suspended in it drain out completely.

Fit new filter
The old filter comes off, the seal face is cleaned, and a new filter and drain washer are fitted to the correct torque.

Refill to spec
The exact grade and quantity for your engine goes in. Not a litre more or less, because overfilling causes problems too.

Check and confirm
We run the engine, check for leaks, recheck the level, reset the reminder and record the mileage for your next change.
Why Dubai cars need oil sooner
Most manufacturers list two service schedules: normal and severe. Their definition of severe, with extreme heat, dust and slow traffic, describes normal daily driving here. That is why we often suggest changing oil before the longest interval on the dashboard.
Summer heat thins and ages oilEngines and turbochargers run hotter in high ambient temperatures, and heat is what breaks oil down fastest.
Traffic adds engine hours, not kilometresIdling on Sheikh Zayed Road wears the oil while the odometer barely moves, so check months as well as distance.
Fine sand gets everywhereDust that passes a tired air filter ends up in the oil. We check the air filter at every oil change for this reason.
Short trips never fully warm the oilSchool runs and quick errands leave moisture and fuel in the oil, which shortens its life.
Signs your car needs an oil change now
Red oil pressure light
Stop the engine safely. This means low oil pressure, not just old oil. Do not keep driving. Call us and we will advise on recovery.
Service reminder on the dash
The car has counted the distance or time since the last service. Book within the next few hundred kilometres.
Dark, gritty oil on the dipstick
Fresh oil is amber and smooth. Black oil that feels gritty between your fingers has stopped protecting the engine.
Ticking or louder engine
Thin, worn oil lets metal parts like the valve train make more noise, especially on a cold start.
Burning oil smell
Often an oil leak dripping on the hot exhaust. Worth checking quickly, because it can also be a fire risk.
Oil level keeps dropping
Needing top ups between changes points to a leak or the engine burning oil. We diagnose the cause, not just refill.

Ask a questionHow often should I change my engine oil in Dubai?
Follow your owner's manual, and use the severe service schedule if it lists one, because Dubai heat, dust and traffic match that definition. As a guide, many modern cars on full synthetic oil need changing every 10,000 km or 12 months, older cars on mineral oil closer to every 5,000 km. Whichever comes first, distance or time.
What is included in an oil change at Mechanics?
Draining the old oil, a new oil filter and drain plug washer, refilling with the grade and approval your manufacturer specifies, a check of other fluid levels, a leak and condition check on the lift, and resetting the service reminder where the car allows it.
How long does an oil change take?
The work itself is usually done within about an hour for most cars. It can take longer if the filter is hard to reach or if we find something that needs your approval. We confirm the timing when you book.
How much does an oil change cost?
The price depends on how many litres your engine takes, the oil approval it needs and the filter for your model. Send us your car make, model, year and mileage on WhatsApp and we will reply with a written quote before any work starts.
Can I bring my own oil?
Yes, as long as it matches the grade and approval in your manual. We check the bottle before using it, and we will tell you if it is not right for your engine.
Is synthetic oil worth it?
If your manual specifies it, it is not optional. Most modern, turbocharged and European engines need full synthetic. Even where it is not required, synthetic oil handles UAE heat better and keeps its protection for longer.
Should I change the gearbox oil at the same time?
Not at every oil change. Transmission fluid has its own, much longer interval. We can check its condition while the car is on the lift and advise if it is due.
Why is my car smoking or smelling after an oil change?
A small amount of spilled oil burning off the exhaust is normal for a few minutes. Smoke that continues, or blue smoke from the tailpipe, can mean overfilling or another fault. Bring the car back and we will check it.
