Compare oil type and the litres your engine needs
These are advertised Dubai market examples, including promotional packages, rather than fixed Mechanics prices. Compare oil, filter and routine labour together. The correct approval and actual fill capacity matter more than the lowest headline figure.
On smaller screens, scroll the price table to see every column.
| Oil and package quantity | Published example in AED | VAT treatment | Scope to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mineral, quantity to confirm | From 69 | Not stated by the source | Advertised oil, filter and labour package. Confirm the included litres, compatible grade and total before comparing. |
| Semi synthetic, quantity to confirm | From 99 | Not stated by the source | Advertised oil, filter and labour package. Suitable only when the engine specification permits this oil. |
| Full synthetic, up to 4 litres | From 165 | Inclusive where applicable | A published promotional package including oil replacement, a new filter and service labour. |
| Full synthetic, up to 6 litres | From 210 | Inclusive where applicable | A larger oil allowance with a new filter. Check the exact product approval for the vehicle. |
| Full synthetic, up to 8 litres | From 300 | Inclusive where applicable | A higher-capacity package with a new filter. More oil or a specialist filter changes the quote. |
Mineral and semi synthetic examples have no confirmed VAT basis, so their advertised figures are not confirmed totals. The full synthetic figures are published promotional examples with tax included where applicable. Offers can change. None is a promised Mechanics package or evidence that every oil approval is covered.
Engine size affects the quantity
A small engine and a larger V6 or V8 may need different quantities, but cylinder count and displacement do not establish the fill capacity. We check the engine variant and the service-fill quantity with the filter changed. A 4-litre allowance does not cover a car that needs more, and an 8-litre package does not mean eight litres should go into every SUV.
Ask for the oil product, viscosity, required approval, litres, filter reference, labour and final total on one quote. A premium approval, difficult filter access, undertray removal, damaged drain fitting or an extra seal can change the work.
Allow about an hour for routine work
A straightforward oil and filter change is usually planned around an hour once the car is available for service. Booking time, workshop waiting and collection transport are separate. Difficult access, a seized drain plug or a leak needing diagnosis can extend the visit.
Confirm the oil and filter availability when arranging your slot. Additional repairs, an engine flush, other filters, gearbox fluid and recovery are separate unless included in your quote.
Call to check your service slotIs your oil change due?
Enter the distance and time since your last service, then the mileage and month limits specified for your car. The first limit reached controls this comparison.
Use your owner’s manual, applicable service schedule or workshop service record. An oil-life warning, engine-hour limit or different severe-use schedule can require an earlier change. This tool compares your entries and cannot inspect the oil or approve continued driving. Not sure of the interval or last service? Send the model, year, mileage and available service history. We can help identify which schedule to check.
More than draining and refilling
The core work is the correct engine oil, a replacement filter and the checks needed to hand the car back. Confirm the exact oil quantity, filter choice and any additional work when booking.
- 01Right oil for your engineViscosity and performance specification checked for the exact engine. A brand name alone does not identify the required approval.
- 02New oil filterA compatible replacement with the correct seals. Ask which genuine or alternative filter is included in the quote.
- 03Drain fitting and sealsRenew the washer, seal or single-use plug where the vehicle procedure requires it. Check the fitting before refilling.
- 04Fluid level checkRelevant accessible fluid levels checked. A low level needs its cause assessed before any appropriate top-up with the correct fluid.
- 05Leak and condition checkLook for visible leakage around the sump, drain fitting and filter housing. Any further diagnosis or repair is discussed separately.
- 06Reminder reset and recyclingService light reset where your car allows it. Used oil and filters go for proper recycling.
Which oil does your car actually need?
Check the viscosity, industry performance specification and any manufacturer approval for your exact engine. We use that information to select a suitable product. Oil type alone does not establish compatibility or the service interval.
Mineral
A mineral-based formulation can be suitable for an engine that permits it. Vehicle age alone is not enough to make that choice.
- Service timing
- Vehicle schedule
- Selection
- Check compatibility
Semi synthetic
A blend of base oils, available in different viscosity and performance specifications. Compare the actual approved product rather than assuming every blend suits the car.
- Service timing
- Vehicle schedule
- Selection
- Required specification
Full synthetic
Full synthetic products can meet demanding engine specifications. Choose one with the required approval and grade. The label does not automatically permit a longer service interval.

- Vehicle schedule
- Selection
- Exact engine approval
- 5W is the winter viscosity classification, based on low-temperature performance tests. Use the grade specified for the engine.
- 30 is the high-temperature viscosity classification. A higher number is not automatically better for Dubai conditions, and changing grade needs manufacturer guidance.
- The approval code on the bottle matters as much as the grade. Two 5W-30 oils can have very different additives, so we match the approval your engine maker specifies.
Your oil change, step by step

Drain warm oil
The vehicle is supported safely and the used oil is drained using the manufacturer’s procedure. The technician accounts for hot components and the drain fitting.

Fit new filter
The old filter comes off, the seal face is cleaned, and a new filter and applicable seals are fitted using the specified procedure and tightening requirements.

Refill to spec
The exact grade and quantity for your engine goes in. Not a litre more or less, because overfilling causes problems too.

Check and confirm
We check for leaks and verify the level using the vehicle’s dipstick or electronic procedure. The supported reminder is reset after the work and the service mileage is recorded.
Match the schedule to how you drive
Some vehicles have separate instructions for severe use, while others calculate oil life from operating conditions. Check the schedule that applies to your engine and market. Dubai driving does not justify replacing every manufacturer interval with one shorter number.
Heat and heavy useCheck the manufacturer’s provisions for hot operation, towing and heavy loads. Keep the specified oil grade rather than choosing a thicker product by assumption.
Traffic adds engine hours, not kilometresExtended idling adds operating time without equivalent road distance. Some schedules account for engine hours or oil-life monitoring as well as kilometres.
Dust and filter conditionDusty use can affect the maintenance schedule. Have the air filter and intake condition checked when appropriate. An oil change cannot repair a damaged intake or filter seal.
Short trips never fully warm the oilRepeated short journeys can be a severe-use condition on some vehicles. Apply the vehicle-specific instructions and calendar limit even when annual mileage is low.
A service reminder or a fault that needs checking?
Red oil pressure light
Stop the engine safely. An oil-pressure warning requires attention to the vehicle’s instructions, not just a routine oil change. Stop safely and switch off the engine. Do not continue driving with the warning illuminated. Ask about suitable recovery.
Service reminder on the dash
Check the displayed message and the applicable service schedule. Arrange the required work within that limit rather than assuming every reminder permits extra driving.
Oil appearance has changed
Colour alone does not establish oil condition or whether it is due. Unexpected sludge, contamination or particles need assessment. Use the service history and specified interval rather than judging by colour.
Ticking or louder engine
New ticking or knocking can have several causes, including an oil-level or mechanical problem. Describe when it occurs. An oil change alone may not resolve it.
Burning oil smell
Often an oil leak dripping on the hot exhaust. Worth checking quickly, because it can also be a fire risk.
Oil level keeps dropping
Needing top ups between changes points to a leak or the engine burning oil. We diagnose the cause, not just refill.
Other fluids and related services
Leave with a clear service record
Keep the service date, odometer, oil product and approval, quantity and filter reference with your invoice. A reminder reset confirms that a counter was updated, not that a separate warning or fault has been repaired. Ask what next mileage or calendar limit has been recorded and whether there are findings to follow up.
Review the oil-level result using the vehicle’s specified method. Some engines use an electronic display and require particular conditions before a reading is available. If a leak, warning or smell appears after collection, contact the workshop with the invoice and explain when it started.
Clear explanations matter
“From the detailed explanation of repairs needed to the swift turnaround time, everything was handled impeccably.”
This feedback describes general Mechanics service. For your oil change, confirm the specific oil, filter, included checks and any applicable service or supplied-parts terms. No universal warranty duration is promised here.

Ask a questionHow often should I change my engine oil in Dubai?
Follow the oil-change schedule for your exact engine and market, including the calendar limit. Apply any relevant severe-use or engine-hour instruction and follow the oil-life warning where fitted. Oil type alone cannot set the interval. If the last service is uncertain, send the available record and vehicle details so the next step can be checked.
What is included in an oil change at Mechanics?
The core service is used-oil draining, a compatible replacement filter, applicable drain seals and refilling with the specified oil and quantity. Level and leak checks follow, with a reminder reset where supported. Confirm any other fluid top-up, extra filter or repair on the quote rather than assuming it is included.
How long does an oil change take?
A straightforward oil and filter change is usually planned around an hour once the car is available for service. Queueing, pickup and delivery are separate. Filter access, damaged fittings or additional findings can extend the visit. Confirm the slot and expected collection time for your car.
How much does an oil change cost?
Published Dubai market examples start at AED 69 for mineral and AED 99 for semi synthetic packages with their VAT basis unstated. Advertised full synthetic packages for up to 4, 6 and 8 litres start at AED 165, AED 210 and AED 300, inclusive of VAT where applicable. These are market examples, not fixed Mechanics prices. The approved oil, actual litres, filter and work determine your quote.
Can I bring my own oil?
Discuss customer-supplied oil before booking. The product must meet the required viscosity and performance specification, including any manufacturer approval, and there must be enough for the service fill. Confirm the filter, labour charge and any conditions that apply to supplied materials.
Is synthetic oil worth it?
Use the product type and specification required for your engine. A full synthetic label does not replace the approval check, and changing to it does not automatically extend the service interval. Compare suitable products and fitted costs for your car.
Should I change the gearbox oil at the same time?
Engine oil and transmission fluid serve different systems. The transmission has its own fluid specification, service procedure and maintenance schedule. It is separate work unless included in your quote, and should not be added merely because the engine oil is being changed.
Why is my car smoking or smelling after an oil change?
Report new smoke, a burning smell or a leak after the service. An oil spill, incorrect level or another fault may need checking. Do not assume smoke is harmless or continue driving with an oil-pressure warning. Stop safely if there is visible leaking, persistent smoke or another urgent warning and contact the workshop.
Does a bigger engine always need a more expensive oil change?
Oil capacity, the specified product and the filter determine the consumables. A larger engine may need more oil, but displacement or cylinder count alone does not establish the fill. Compare quotes for the actual service-fill litres and correct approval.
What should be on my service record?
Keep the date, mileage, oil product and specification, quantity and filter reference with the invoice. Ask what reminder was reset and which next-service mileage or date applies. Keep any separate finding or follow-up recommendation with that record.
Is an engine flush included?
An engine flush is separate work and should not be assumed necessary at every oil change. Discuss the reason, compatibility and proposed procedure before adding any treatment. Routine correct oil and filter servicing is a different task.
