Suspension repair price guide

A worn joint, a pair of shocks and an air strut need different work. These indicative Dubai service budgets include 5% VAT for the stated quantity. They are planning estimates, not confirmed Mechanics tariffs.

WorkPlanning budget including 5% VATQuantity and important limits
Conventional shock replacementAED 525–1,680 per axle pairTwo standard shocks and routine replacement. Adaptive dampers, strut assemblies, mounting kits and alignment are separate.
Conventional strut assembly replacementAED 840–2,520 per axle pairTwo conventional strut assemblies and routine replacement. Confirm whether springs, top mounts and bearings are included in the chosen assembly.
Ball joint replacementAED 262.50–735 per jointOne separately replaceable joint and routine fitting. A joint integrated into an arm may require a complete arm instead.
Control arm replacementAED 420–1,260 per armOne arm and routine fitting. Multiple arms, seized fittings and wheel alignment change the total.
Air spring replacementAED 945–2,625 per springOne separate air spring and routine replacement. A complete air strut with a damper can cost more and needs its own quotation.
Compressor, valve block or electronic faultQuote after diagnosisConfirm the failed component, new or remanufactured part, leak correction and any required setup. This is not a four-corner replacement budget.

The quoted job identifies the parts brand, quantity, routine labour, VAT and any extras. These research-based estimates are for ordinary replacement work, not parts-only offers. Premium vehicles, electronically controlled dampers and complete air struts can exceed them. Alignment, extra diagnostic time, calibration, recovery and additional damaged parts are excluded unless itemised. The initial inspection is free. Ask about any further diagnostic charge before it starts.

Keep the sound parts

A small repair or a complete assembly?

A suspension complaint does not automatically require a full rebuild. The condition of each component and the way the manufacturer supplies it determine the sensible option.

Replace the worn item

A serviceable joint, bush or link

A separately available bushing, ball joint or anti-roll bar link may resolve the fault without replacing sound assemblies. The surrounding arm, mounting points and other joints must still be checked.

  • Useful when wear is local and the housing is sound.
  • Pressing labour can reduce the saving from a cheaper bush.
  • A bent or cracked arm needs replacement, not a new bush alone.

Fit the right assembly

Integrated or wider wear

A complete arm or strut can be appropriate where the joint is integral, several items are worn or a safe individual repair is unavailable. Compare the components supplied with the complete assembly.

  • Match electronic damping and ride-height equipment.
  • Check top mounts, bearings, dust boots and bump stops.
  • Replace conventional shocks or struts in axle pairs to keep damping balanced.

Choose compatible parts

Compare more than the price

Ask for the proposed manufacturer and part number. A genuine vehicle-brand part and a suitable alternative can have different prices and warranty terms. An OEM label alone does not establish compatibility.

  • Use the VIN when variants cannot be identified reliably.
  • Declare modifications, towing and regular heavy loads.
  • Confirm available parts and coverage for your specific repair.
AIRMATIC and air-equipped SUVs

Air suspension that holds its height

Mechanics offers air suspension diagnosis and repair for Mercedes-Benz AIRMATIC and air-equipped Range Rover models. One low corner can involve a leaking spring, line, valve or incorrect height signal. It does not establish that the compressor needs replacing.

Separate air loss from a control faultThe checks consider stored faults, height readings, air springs, connections and valve operation. Tell us whether it sinks while parked, fails to rise or changes height while driving.
Protect the replacement compressorA leak can keep a compressor running too often. Correct the air loss and check the supply and relay as applicable, so a new pump is not left working against the same problem.
Finish with the required setupConfirm ride-height calibration and functional checks for the fitted system. A reset alone does not seal a leak, repair a sensor or restore a worn damper.

Not every Mercedes-Benz or Range Rover has the same suspension. Share the model and year, plus a warning photo if available. A separate air spring and a complete air strut are different parts.

Describe what changed

Noise, movement or uneven tyre wear?

You do not need to identify the failed part before calling. Describe when the problem happens so the inspection can cover the relevant suspension, steering and wheel components.

Clunks over bumps

Links, bushes, joints or strut mounts can cause knocks as the wheel moves. Mention which corner you hear and whether the sound appears on speed bumps, rough surfaces or while steering.

Bouncing or poor stability

Worn dampers can reduce control of body movement. The checks also consider tyre pressure and condition, springs and any adaptive damping fault rather than attributing every harsh ride to shocks.

Pulling or vibration

Tyres, geometry, damaged rims, steering play and suspension wear can overlap. A vibration at road speed needs different checks from a click on a turn or a knock over a bump.

Call before driving if the car has collapsed at one corner, a tyre rubs the body, a wheel sits at an abnormal angle or steering control changes sharply. Stop safely and discuss suitable recovery. For an air suspension warning, follow the vehicle handbook. Our air suspension warning signs guide explains common symptoms in more detail.

Work around the affected wheel

Shocks, struts and armsFor damping wear, compare shock absorber replacement. A damaged arm or integrated joint may need control arm replacement rather than bush work.
Joints and wheel bearingsExcessive joint movement needs a safety assessment and may lead to ball joint replacement. A road-speed hum can call for wheel bearing replacement after tyre noise and hub condition are checked.
Axles and CV jointsClicking on turns or vibration under acceleration can come from the drive axle rather than the spring or damper. Our axle replacement service covers the relevant assessment and replacement options.
Finish the repair properly

Repair first, then check the geometry

Wheel alignment cannot remove play in a worn joint or straighten a damaged arm. Check the mechanical condition before setting the wheel angles. After repairs that affect geometry, include the required wheel alignment in the plan.

Measurements and completion checksRequest the alignment measurements when alignment is carried out. Completion checks depend on the work and can include fasteners, ride height, noises, warning codes and a road test where safe.
Look at the tyres as wellWorn tread is not restored by alignment. Discuss any tyre damage and whether the vehicle needs further steering or wheel work. Keep the repair and measurement records for future checks.

Arrange your suspension inspection

Send the make, model, year and symptoms. An optional photo of the vehicle’s parked height or dashboard warning helps with air suspension enquiries. Tell us about recent accident damage or previous repairs.

Plan the visit

Inspection and availability

Mechanics offers a free initial inspection and pickup in Dubai. Call to agree a workshop time, access arrangements and any pickup or recovery charge. An unsafe or collapsed vehicle needs suitable transport.

Agree the repair

Findings and written total

Review the failed items, available parts, labour, alignment or calibration and collection timing. An ordered part or seized fitting can extend the work. Additional repairs should be agreed before proceeding.

Keep the coverage clear

Warranty and handover

Ask which parts and labour are covered, the time or mileage limit and exclusions for wear or damage. Keep the invoice and applicable written terms. Warranty coverage depends on the selected parts and work.

“They handled my car’s suspension repair with utmost professionalism, and the quality of work was superb.”

Sara Al-NahyanDubai · Suspension feedback published on the Mechanics homepage
Do I need to replace all four shocks?

Not automatically. Conventional shocks and struts are normally replaced in pairs across the affected axle to keep damping balanced. The other axle is assessed separately. Air springs and complete air struts need their own vehicle-specific assessment rather than a blanket four-corner replacement.

Can a leaking air spring be repaired?

A leak at a connection or serviceable line may be corrected without replacing the air spring. A damaged rubber bellows usually needs a suitable replacement spring or assembly. The leak location, damper condition and available parts determine the work.

Why does my car sink overnight but rise when started?

The compressor may restore height after air has escaped while the vehicle was parked. Air springs, connections or valve operation need assessment. Record which corner drops and how long it takes. Being able to rise again does not mean the underlying fault has disappeared.

How long does suspension repair take?

A straightforward conventional component replacement may fit within one working day when parts are available. Multiple worn items, seized fasteners, air-loss testing and ordered parts can take longer. Mechanics confirms the expected collection time after assessing the job and parts availability.

Will wheel alignment fix the knocking?

Alignment adjusts wheel angles. It does not repair a loose joint, worn mount or damaged component. The noise needs inspection first. Geometry should then be checked when required by the repair, rather than using alignment as a substitute for mechanical work.

What should a suspension quote include?

Check the component, quantity, parts manufacturer, labour and VAT. Ask whether top mounts, bearings, hardware, alignment and any ride-height calibration are included. A per-unit price and an axle-pair price are not the same offer. The planning figures above are estimates, not a fixed Mechanics price list.

Is suspension repair covered by a warranty?

Ask for the applicable coverage for the selected repair before approving it. Parts and labour can have different terms. Confirm the duration or mileage limit, covered components, wear exclusions and how to report a problem. Do not assume every suspension job has identical cover.
