No gears, just a belt and two pulleys
A CVT changes ratio smoothly with a steel belt running between two pulleys that change size. It saves fuel, but it lives or dies by its fluid. Old, burnt fluid is behind most of the shudder and whine we see.
The fix is not always a new gearbox. A fluid change with the correct Mitsubishi fluid, and sometimes a software update, often settles a mild shudder. A worn valve body or belt needs more.

How you use it decides what it needs
A Pajero that only does the school run and one that does the dunes every Friday need very different care. So does an L200 that carries a full load every day. Find your column.

When the AC compressor goes, do the job once
AC compressor failure is a known Mitsubishi issue, with clicking, warm air or AC that cuts in and out. When a compressor fails it can send debris round the system, so swapping the compressor alone often means a second failure.

Why does my Mitsubishi shudder when pulling away?
On Mitsubishis with a CVT, a shudder or judder when pulling away is the most common gearbox complaint. Old CVT fluid is often behind it. A fluid change with the correct fluid, and sometimes a software update, can settle it before a bigger repair is needed.
How often should the CVT fluid be changed?
Owners who change it more often than the basic schedule tend to have fewer problems. One source suggests roughly every 30,000 miles, about 48,000 km. Hard use, heat and towing are reasons to do it sooner.
Why is my Mitsubishi AC clicking and blowing warm?
A failing AC compressor is a known Mitsubishi issue. When it fails, the receiver drier and expansion valve are usually replaced and the system flushed too, so the new compressor lasts.
