Localized seat repair
A small tear, open seam or worn bolster may be repairable when the surrounding material is strong enough. Surface restoration cannot restore strength to deeply split or brittle upholstery.
Torn leather, a sagging cushion or stained seats? Let Mechanics assess the material, damage and seat functions, then explain what can be repaired, recovered or cleaned.
Basic seat repair: from AED 250 as a price guide
The repair area, material and access determine the quote. Confirm VAT and inclusions before booking.

Car upholstery repair covers the seat surface and supporting trim. The right solution depends on the condition beneath the damage as well as the appearance.
A small tear, open seam or worn bolster may be repairable when the surrounding material is strong enough. Surface restoration cannot restore strength to deeply split or brittle upholstery.
A larger damaged panel, repeated cracking or badly worn seat covering may need replacement material. Compare a localized panel replacement with recovering the seat before committing to a full interior.
A collapsed cushion and a seat that will not move need different work. Foam shape, support parts, rails and electrical functions should be assessed separately from the visible covering.

Cleaning treats soil and some stains. It will not close a tear, rebuild a collapsed bolster or restore a broken adjustment mechanism. We help separate the work so the quote addresses the actual problem.
An inspection separates cosmetic damage from worn padding, broken supports and failed mechanisms. Approve the agreed repair and finish before work begins.
Use AED 250 as a starting guide for a basic seat repair. A photo can help with an initial estimate, but the seat must be assessed to confirm repairability and the work included.
Confirm whether VAT, materials and labor are included in your written quote before approval.
One small seam repair is different from replacing a shaped leather panel. Material matching, perforations, piping, cushion work and removal access affect labor and parts.
| Published vehicle-specific example | Existing guide range | Confirm before approval |
|---|---|---|
| Kia seat upholstery | AED 450–1,200 | Seat quantity, damaged panels and chosen material. |
| Toyota seat reupholstering | AED 600–1,400 | Whether the scope is one area, one seat or a wider job. |
| Ford leather seat work | AED 700–1,500 | Repair versus replacement leather and color matching. |
These are existing published examples, not fixed per-seat prices or interchangeable packages. They do not specify VAT, seat quantity or every inclusion. Cleaning and power-seat faults need a separate quote.
Send one wide photo of the seat and one close-up in natural light. Photos help assess the scope; they cannot confirm the condition of hidden foam or supports.
A worn color coating may suit refinishing if the leather beneath is sound. A deep split, stretched edge or dry, brittle panel can need replacement.
A repaired area may differ from surrounding aged leather. Confirm the expected color, sheen and texture before approval.
Seam failure, a cigarette burn and a broad tear need different approaches. A suitable repair may be possible, while larger damage can require a replacement panel.
Exact older fabrics may be unavailable. Compare a close match with a wider panel replacement to make any difference less distracting.
Synthetic leather, vinyl and suede-like trim should not automatically receive the same products or repair method as natural leather.
Check the material code where available, the surrounding wear and the manufacturer’s care guidance. A peeling surface may need new covering.
Book cleaning for the affected seats or agree a wider cabin scope. Cleaning is quoted separately when it is not included in the repair.

Tell us what spilled, how long it has been present and whether another cleaner has already been used. Food, drink, dye transfer and ingrained dirt do not respond in the same way. Permanent staining or coating damage may remain after cleaning.
Use the vehicle’s care instructions for coated leather, synthetic surfaces and specialist fabrics. Aggressive solvents, scrubbing and unsuitable dressings can change the finish. Conditioner is not a universal treatment for every material.
A surface clean may not reach wet padding, underlay or contamination beneath the carpet. Persistent dampness after flooding needs a wider flood-damage assessment, including the affected electrical areas. Do not treat a fresh fragrance as proof that the source is gone.
Ask how long the car needs to stay and when the seats can be used. Fabric thickness, moisture, stain treatment and ventilation affect drying. A same-day handover should be confirmed for the actual job.
Mention looseness, an unexpected change in seat position or a warning light when booking. Do not keep using a seat that cannot remain securely positioned.
A stuck seat can involve an obstruction, rail, switch, wiring, motor or mechanism. Check the failed movement before ordering a complete seat or motor. Tell us whether one direction or every function has stopped.
Replacing a cover does not automatically fix a collapsed cushion, failed heating element or ventilation fault. Identify these separately so the quote includes the right access, parts and functional checks.
Some seats contain side airbags, occupancy sensors and wiring. An airbag seam is not an ordinary upholstery seam. Any affected safety system needs the appropriate vehicle-specific procedure and qualified assessment.
Report an airbag or restraint warning before the seat is removed. Do not use a decorative cover or generic stitching repair to conceal damage around an airbag deployment area. A physically fitting cover is not evidence of safety-system compatibility.
Small repairs can sometimes be completed within a few hours. Reupholstery, drying, parts supply or electrical diagnosis can take longer; confirm the schedule after inspection.
Check the visible damage, surrounding material, cushion shape and reported seat functions. Agree whether cleaning, localized repair, a replacement panel or a larger recover is appropriate.
Approve the available material, expected matching limits, included labor and any removal. If hidden damage is found after authorized dismantling, additional work needs a revised quote.
The job may require the seat or covering to be removed. Seat wiring, trim clips and vehicle-specific safety procedures matter as much as the cosmetic surface.
Review seam alignment, panel tension and comfort. Check affected adjustments and relevant heating, ventilation or safety-system functions according to the scope. Confirm care instructions and the written warranty terms.
Replacement upholstery may be a matching panel, a compatible cover or a wider recover. Availability and the condition of the original material determine the practical options.
A new panel sits beside upholstery that has aged in use. Review the available material and the expected result before choosing the repair scope.
Related cracks, worn buttons and console fittings belong in the dashboard and interior trim repair assessment. They can be quoted alongside seat work without assuming a complete cabin restoration is necessary.
Loose fabric above the seats needs a separate roof lining and headliner repair assessment. We check the backing and board before deciding whether to repair an edge, re-cover the lining or replace a damaged assembly.
Repair choices, realistic timing and what to confirm before work begins.
Sometimes. A sound surrounding panel, the size and location of the tear, and any safety-system requirements determine whether a localized repair is suitable. Large or brittle areas may need a replacement panel rather than a full seat.
The existing basic repair guide starts at AED 250. The final cost depends on the damaged area, material, cushion condition and access. Published upholstery examples have different scopes, so confirm seat quantity, labor and VAT in the written quote.
An exact match cannot be promised from a photo. Age, sun exposure, grain and sheen affect the result. Ask to review the available material and expected difference before authorizing refinishing or a replacement panel.
Only when the quote says so. Ask which seats or areas are included, what stains may remain and how long drying will take. Cleaning cannot repair torn material or a failed seat mechanism.
A burn may suit a localized treatment or a replacement panel depending on the material and extent. A collapsed cushion needs an assessment of the foam and supporting parts; covering it alone may leave the discomfort unchanged.
Send the make, model, year, affected seat and material if known, plus a wide photo and a close-up. Mention failed seat functions, warning lights and any liquid damage. Avoid sending personal documents or visible belongings in the photos.
A small tear or a larger upholstery job starts with a closer look. Talk to us about the damage, material and finish you want before approving the work.
