Add a spare key
Identify a compatible key and register it using the appropriate vehicle procedure. Bring every key that should remain in use and verify them together at handover.
Need a second key or a replacement that the car will recognise? Mechanics discusses compatible transponder, remote and smart-key registration for your vehicle. Dubai supplied-key packages with programming start around AED 250 for conventional transponder keys and AED 600 for smart keys, including VAT. We confirm the exact system and work before quoting.

Coding a compatible key and supplying a complete spare are different purchases. These VAT-inclusive market starting references help you compare the quoted work. They are not a confirmed Mechanics price list.
| Work | Starting market reference per key including VAT | What to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Supplied transponder key with programming | From AED 250 | A compatible supplied key and electronic registration. For supported conventional systems such as selected Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Ford vehicles. |
| Supplied smart key with programming | From AED 600 | Compatible proximity key and registration. Check keyless entry, push-button start and whether emergency blade cutting is included. |
| BMW spare-key programming | Standard from AED 450 Comfort Access from AED 650 | A published Dubai benchmark. Confirm the supplied fob, blade, vehicle generation and functions in the complete quote. |
| Mercedes-Benz or Audi premium key package | From AED 800 | Published Dubai luxury-key benchmark including programming. Manufacturer-ordered keys and restricted newer systems require an individual quote. |
| Programming only for your own key | Quote after compatibility check | No invented flat coding fee. Ask whether the key is eligible, which registration functions are included and whether separate diagnosis is needed. |
These package references already include programming. Ask for a total that identifies key supply, blade work, labour, testing and VAT. All keys lost, security-module faults, transport and manufacturer orders are separate.
A blank blade cannot start a vehicle that requires an authorised transponder. An online remote can look right while having the wrong frequency, generation or regional specification. Send the exact specification first.
Tell us your model, year, number of working keys and whether you need key supply or coding for a fob you already own.
The required work follows the key system and the customer’s situation, rather than a universal pairing sequence.
Discuss Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other makes with the exact model and year. Different generations within one brand can use different security systems.
The immobiliser decides whether a key is authorised to start the vehicle. Remote locking and proximity functions may need their own registration or testing. A successfully cut blade does not establish that the electronics are ready.
Genuine keys and compatible aftermarket keys have different ordering and registration conditions. Previously used fobs may not be eligible for reuse. Some newer systems require manufacturer-authorised access or a preconfigured key, so workshop support must be confirmed before booking.
For a damaged case, weak battery or failed buttons, start with key fob repair and replacement options. A battery swap is not automatically a reason for coding. The correct manufacturer procedure for your model controls any required resynchronisation.

Call to confirm opening hours and arrangements at Al Quoz. If the vehicle will not start, discuss recovery and any charge before travel.
Clear answers about compatibility, cost and the work to agree.
It can involve fewer supplied parts, but only if your own key is compatible and eligible for registration. The package starting prices on this page include a supplied key and programming where stated. A coding-only quote follows a check of the vehicle and fob, so the package price should not be treated as an extra labour fee.
Bring every key you want to retain and confirm the requirement for your vehicle. Some registration procedures can remove absent keys from the authorised set. Test the new key and all retained keys before leaving.
Not always. A used fob can be electronically locked or preconfigured for its original vehicle. Confirm the exact part and system before purchase. A matching shell or button layout does not establish reuse eligibility.
Only if the confirmed fault requires registration work. The fob battery, internal electronics, vehicle battery, antennas or receiver can also be involved. Tell us whether a second key works and whether the failure affects locking, starting or both.
The duration depends on the vehicle system, compatible key availability, security access and whether a working key remains. An ordered genuine key or an all-keys-lost job may take longer than adding a supported spare. Mechanics confirms the expected time for the agreed job.
Discuss electronic deactivation for the exact key system. Whether it is supported and how retained keys are handled depends on the vehicle. Removing electronic authorisation does not necessarily stop the old mechanical blade opening a door lock, so that separate risk must also be assessed.
