Picture visible but no touch
Check the touch layer, connections, and system response. A working picture does not confirm that the touch panel is healthy.
A touch-panel repair may preserve the original display.
MECHANICS IN AL QUOZ
A black display, cracked screen, or touchscreen that ignores your input needs the right repair. Mechanics assesses the display, touch layer, and connected electronics, then compares a focused repair with replacement.
A compatible new fixed display is estimated at AED 1,200–3,200. Both budgets include normal fitting, function checks, and 5% VAT. Separate coding and head-unit work are additional.

START WITH WHAT STILL WORKS
Tell us whether the picture, touch response, sound, and vehicle controls still work. These details help separate a display fault from a problem elsewhere in the system.
Check the touch layer, connections, and system response. A working picture does not confirm that the touch panel is healthy.
A touch-panel repair may preserve the original display.
Assess power, connections, backlighting, and the display. Note whether sound or the reversing camera still operates.
Identify the display fault before ordering a complete unit.
Record when it happens and check power stability, software, stored faults, and the main infotainment unit.
Repeated resets alone may not address the cause.
Identify whether the damage affects the cover, touch layer, LCD, or complete bonded assembly. The visible crack alone does not identify every failed part.
Match the replacement to the actual screen construction.
Check the affected input and compatible settings. A lost phone connection or camera feed does not automatically mean the screen needs replacement.
Test the connected equipment as well as the display.
Park safely before troubleshooting. If the screen also controls visibility, vehicle settings, or essential functions, tell us what is unavailable before driving in. Do not rely on a failed reversing-camera display when maneuvering.
COMPARE THE WORK AND FITTED COST
A touch layer, LCD, fixed display, and complete infotainment unit are different parts. Compare the repair and replacement choices below for a supported system.
Estimated Dubai budgets, not fixed offers. Figures include 5% VAT for the stated scope. Parts and labor are included only as described. The exact vehicle, fault, and part choice determine the written quote.
| Work | Estimated AED | Included work and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Focused screen fault diagnosis | 250–650 | Display, connection, and system checks after the initial inspection. Extended bench testing, major dismantling, and repair parts are separate if required. |
| Minor power or connection repair | 250–900 | Agreed local terminal or power-connection work and function checks. Excludes a replacement harness, display, or head unit. |
| LCD backlight or internal display repair | 700–1,800 | Repair of a suitable original display, normal removal and fitting, and picture checks. A replacement panel or complete assembly is a different scope. |
| Touch-panel or digitizer replacement | 900–2,500 | A compatible replacement touch layer where separately repairable, normal fitting, and touch checks. Excludes an additional LCD or complete bonded assembly. |
| Compatible new fixed display | 1,200–3,200 | One compatible aftermarket fixed display, normal removal and fitting, and function checks. Excludes the head unit and separate coding or activation. |
| Refurbished original fixed display | 1,500–3,800 | One compatible refurbished original display, normal fitting, and function checks. Confirm condition, coverage, and any extra setup before approval. |
| Genuine new factory display | 2,800–7,500+ | One vehicle-matched genuine display with normal fitting and function checks. Rare, premium, or motorized assemblies can exceed this range. Coding is separate if needed. |
| Required coding or vehicle setup | 500–1,500 | An applicable supported setup procedure and verification. This is an additional job only when required and not already included in the selected fitted quote. |
Check the assemblyConfirm the screen generation and whether it is fixed or retractable. A motor, mechanism, ribbon cable, or complete infotainment head unit is outside a standard fixed-display replacement unless listed in the quote.
Compare the complete repairA lower part price may need extra removal, coding, or repairs to connected equipment. Compare the retained functions, part condition, and written coverage as well as the fitted total.
Inspection and extra work Mechanics offers a free car inspection. Detailed fault tracing, removal, or bench testing may carry a separate charge, agreed before it starts. Ask whether that charge is included or credited in the final repair quote so it is not counted twice.
Before approval The written quote should show the selected part, labor, any required setup or license, VAT, expected collection, and applicable warranty terms. Additional glass, wiring, connected-system, or pickup work needs separate agreement.

KEEP WHAT CAN BE REPAIRED
The display and the main infotainment electronics may be separate components. The assessment should explain which part has failed and what each proposed repair will restore.
When the picture is clear but touch response is unreliable, a separately available touch panel may be suitable. Its fit, bonding method, and connections must match the original screen.
Useful when the display and remaining electronics are sound.A cracked LCD, persistent lines, or internal display damage may require a replacement panel or assembly. Check the mounting, resolution, interface, and control method.
A screen replacement does not automatically include the head unit.A power, connection, or supported internal repair can be the better choice when the display itself is usable. Water damage and previous repairs can affect whether repair is practical.
Confirm the diagnosed fault and the repair coverage in writing.Replacement may be appropriate when repair is uneconomical or the required parts are unavailable. Compare the fitted cost and retained functions before approving a different unit.
Used and replacement modules can need vehicle-specific setup.
PICTURE AND TOUCH ARE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS
The LCD may still be usable when the touch layer is damaged. Check whether a separately supplied touch panel is appropriate for the exact display. Some units need a complete bonded assembly.
Inspect the display, connections, and related electronics. Do not press on the surface to force the picture back. Record whether the fault changes with temperature, bumps, or startup.
If the picture and controls work, a wrong position or missing road may belong to a different repair. Our GPS and navigation fault service covers reception, maps, and navigation software.
RETAIN THE FUNCTIONS YOU USE
A replacement display should work with the original controls, audio, and reversing camera where fitted. Confirm the resolution, connector, mounting, and system generation before ordering.
If the aim is adding phone apps, compare the repair with a compatible Apple CarPlay installation. Ask which original functions are retained and what adapters or setup are required.
Match the exact generation and part number. A similar screen size or familiar system name does not establish compatibility.
Identify the manufacturer and installation details. A replacement screen must work with the existing head unit, wiring, and control interface.
FROM FAULT TO HANDOVER
Bring a short video of an intermittent problem if you can capture it while parked. Mention recent battery work, an update, liquid exposure, or an accessory installation.
Check relevant power supplies, connections, system faults, and available repair parts. The proposed work should explain why the selected component needs attention.
Confirm the chosen part, fitted price, required setup, and expected collection time. Parts ordering, internal repairs, and software work can extend the visit.
Verify the original complaint and the connected features affected by the repair. Keep the quote, part details, and applicable warranty terms.
Work through the usable screen area, brightness settings, fitted controls, and camera input. A screen that lights up can still have a touch or integration fault.
Report recurring restarts, battery drain, missing controls, or a new warning so the workshop can reassess the fault.
PARTS AND COMPATIBILITY
Compare the part number, connector, system generation, and fitted features. A similar-looking display may not work with the electronics already in your car.

A suitable component repair can retain the factory menus and integration. Ask which parts are being replaced and which remain in service.
If available, compare a genuine part with a compatible alternative by specification, supplier, and coverage. Confirm whether the quote is for a touch panel, display, or complete assembly.
Check the condition, part number, return terms, and whether lawful coding or activation is available. Do not buy a used module on appearance alone.
Confirm any license, account, or map requirement before work. Saved destinations, paired devices, and personal settings may need to be restored after a reset or unit replacement.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Practical answers about display repair, touch response, compatibility, and the visit.
Sometimes. If the picture and remaining electronics are sound, a separately available touch panel may be suitable. Some screens are supplied as bonded assemblies, so the exact unit determines the repair.
The display, its power supply, backlight, or connection may be affected while other functions continue operating. Testing is needed before deciding whether to replace the screen or the main unit.
It depends on the display construction and available repair parts. The cover, touch layer, and LCD may be separate or bonded together. Assessment should establish which parts are damaged and whether a reliable component repair is suitable.
Match the exact part number, connectors, system generation, and required setup. Check condition and return terms before buying. A similar-looking screen from the same brand may not be compatible.
A touch-panel repair is estimated at AED 900–2,500, a compatible new fixed display at AED 1,200–3,200, and a refurbished original display at AED 1,500–3,800. These budgets include normal fitting, function checks, and 5% VAT. Separate coding can add AED 500–1,500 when required. The price table distinguishes these jobs from diagnostics and complete head-unit work.
Collection time is confirmed after the fault and parts availability are established. A supported update can have a different schedule from screen sourcing, internal electronics work, or a replacement unit that needs setup.
A reset, update, or replacement can affect stored data. Mention anything you need to retain before work and use the manufacturer’s supported backup method where available. Do not send account passwords in an initial quote request.
That depends on which vehicle functions use the unit and what remains connected. Ask the workshop before taking the car away. A navigation display is not always independent of other controls.
Ask for the coverage and duration for the specific repair and selected part in writing. New, refurbished, used, and customer-supplied components may have different terms. Confirm any exclusions before approval.
Bring the car, the phone and cable involved if relevant, and a short fault video if available. The model, year, system name, and recent repair or update history help the assessment. Discuss pickup availability and charges when arranging the visit.
