What does sensor replacement cost?

A tyre pressure sensor, an oxygen sensor and an engine position sensor have different parts and fitting requirements. The examples below help you plan. Your Mechanics quote confirms the exact sensor, work and total for your vehicle.

A complete fitted quote

Compare the total, not just the loose sensor price. Your quote should identify the part and quantity, fitting labour, any required setup, testing and VAT. A wiring repair or control module fault is a different job and should be itemised separately.

Inspection and diagnosis

The initial inspection is free. A detailed scan, circuit testing, dismantling or specialist calibration may be chargeable. We explain any additional investigation before you approve it. Diagnosis is not included in the example replacement budgets unless your quote says so.

Choose the relevant service

Which sensor needs attention?

You do not need to identify the part yourself. Tell us what the car is doing. If you already know the affected system, these four services explain the specific work.

Oxygen and air-fuel ratio sensors

An engine warning or unusual fuel consumption can involve the exhaust sensor circuit, but other faults can cause similar symptoms. We check the findings before choosing a replacement.

Read about oxygen sensor testing and replacement, including why the position before or after the catalyst matters.

Tyre pressure monitoring sensors

A low-pressure warning needs the tyre pressures checked first. Missing readings or a system malfunction may need sensor testing, replacement or a relearn, depending on the fitted system.

Our tyre pressure sensor service covers the work for direct TPMS sensors.

Camshaft position sensors

Starting difficulty, an engine warning or reduced performance can involve the sensor signal or wiring. Mechanical timing problems may also need investigation.

See the work involved in replacing a camshaft position sensor after the fault is established.

Parking sensors

Continuous beeping, one inactive sensor or a parking assistance warning may involve dirt, impact damage, a connector or the control system. A camera fault needs different checks.

Check the cause

A warning code is a starting point

A fault code describes what the control system detected. It does not always identify a failed part. Replacing a sensor will not fix a broken wire, damaged connector or a mechanical problem affecting its reading.

Read the fault and operating data

We consider the warning, when the symptom appears and the relevant stored codes. The next checks depend on the system. For a wider electrical warning, our computer diagnostics service explains the investigation.

Check the sensor and circuit

Relevant checks may include the mounting, connector condition, supply voltage, ground and signal. Intermittent problems may need further testing rather than an immediate parts order.

Explain the repair

The findings determine whether the work is a connection repair, a compatible sensor replacement or investigation elsewhere. We explain the recommendation and price before the repair proceeds.

Compare suitable options

Repair the connection or replace the sensor?

The right choice depends on what has failed. It should solve the fault without replacing working parts unnecessarily.

Connection or mounting repair

A damaged plug, corroded connection, broken wire or displaced mounting may be the cause. Repairing that fault can retain a serviceable sensor.

  • Identify the affected connection or mounting
  • Repair it using the appropriate method
  • Recheck the signal and original symptom

Compatible replacement

An internal sensor fault or physical damage may require a new unit. The correct connector alone does not establish compatibility. Specification, position and application also matter.

  • Identify the sensor and vehicle application
  • Compare suitable parts and fitted costs
  • Include seals, valve parts or setup where required

Further investigation

An implausible reading can reflect a fault elsewhere. Actual low oil pressure, an intake leak, a wheel encoder problem or incorrect mechanical timing needs its own assessment.

  • Explain why replacement may not solve the problem
  • Quote any additional investigation
  • Recommend the work supported by the findings
Match the part to the car

Choose a sensor that fits and works

Mechanics can discuss genuine or suitable aftermarket options for the application. Compare the identified part, supplier, compatibility, fitted cost and written warranty. A cheap sensor that cannot communicate correctly is poor value.

An oxygen sensor before the catalytic converter can have a different role and specification from one after it. Engine position sensors vary by engine and location. Parking sensors must suit the fitted system, with paint or finish handled as required.

We may ask for the VIN or a part reference when it is needed for matching. You can contact us with your model and symptom first. Availability is checked for the selected part, and the completion window follows the confirmed work.

What happens after fitting?

Required registration, relearn, adaptation or calibration depends on the component and vehicle. It is not needed for every sensor. The relevant readings, warning status and original symptom are checked after the work. Clearing a warning by itself is not proof of a repair.

Tyres and wheel sensors

A tyre warning does not always mean a failed sensor

Direct TPMS measures pressure through sensors in the wheels. Indirect systems use other signals to estimate pressure changes and do not have a pressure transmitter inside each wheel. This distinction changes the work and price.

For direct systems, the checks can distinguish an actual pressure problem from a damaged valve, missing transmitter signal or unsuitable sensor. A replacement needs the correct vehicle protocol and frequency. Universal programmable sensors and vehicle-specific sensors can need different setup.

Ask for one complete wheel price, including the applicable valve service parts, tyre removal and refitting, balance and relearn. A sensor quote does not cover a puncture repair or tyre replacement unless those are listed.

Choose your next step

Which sensor check do you need?

Start with the problem you notice. We’ll check the cause and explain the appropriate repair.

Engine warning or starting trouble

Persistent warnings, hard starting or stalling need diagnosis. We check the relevant sensor signals and connections before recommending parts.

ABS or stability control warning

A wheel speed sensor fault can affect assistance systems. Changes in braking need a brake inspection as well. Follow your car’s handbook for the displayed warning.

Tyre readings or parking alerts

Check actual low tyre pressure first. Missing readings or constant parking alerts need system checks. Check your surroundings directly when parking assistance is not working.

When driving needs urgent attention

Stop safely for an oil-pressure warning, overheating, a red brake warning, changed brake feel or a fluid leak. A flashing engine warning with shaking, severe power loss or repeated stalling needs prompt assessment.

Let us know if the warning started after tyre fitting, bumper work or an impact.

Sensor replacement questions

Understand the fitted price, suitable parts and next step without having to diagnose the car yourself.

How much does sensor replacement cost in Dubai?

The cost depends on the sensor, vehicle, access and parts choice. The price table shows Mercedes camshaft examples at AED 525–1,575 and crankshaft examples at AED 475–1,365 per sensor, including 5% VAT. These are researched fitted planning estimates, not confirmed Mechanics prices or a tariff for all cars. Other sensors need a vehicle-specific quote.

Is the initial sensor inspection free?

Mechanics offers a free initial inspection. A detailed scan, circuit test, dismantling or specialist calibration may be separate chargeable work. We explain any additional investigation and its price before you approve it.

Does a fault code mean the sensor must be replaced?

No. A code can identify a circuit or an implausible reading without proving the sensor is faulty. Damaged wiring, a connector fault or a mechanical problem can produce similar warnings. Replacement follows the relevant checks.

Can you repair a sensor instead of replacing it?

A damaged connector, wiring fault or mounting issue may be repairable. A sensor with an internal electronic fault usually needs replacement. Cleaning is appropriate only when permitted for that component and when contamination is the cause. It is not a general cure for every sensor fault.

Do all cars have tyre pressure sensors inside the wheels?

No. Direct TPMS uses sensors in the wheels. Indirect systems estimate pressure changes from other signals and do not use a pressure transmitter in each wheel. We identify the system before quoting sensor replacement.

How long will the work take?

Access to the sensor, diagnosis, parts availability and any relearn or calibration determine the completion time. Replacing an accessible sensor is a different job from removing intake components, a bumper or a tyre. We confirm the expected completion window for your car after checking the work.

Do I need to replace every sensor at once?

Usually there is no reason to replace working sensors just because one fails. Multiple faults, ageing TPMS batteries or related damage may make a wider repair sensible, but the quote should explain each recommended part. An oxygen sensor before the catalyst and one after it are not automatically replaced as a pair.

What parts and warranty will my quote include?

The quote identifies the sensor, quantity, parts option, fitting and required checks. Ask for the applicable written parts and labour warranty, including its duration and exclusions. Genuine and aftermarket options differ by application, and this page does not promise one blanket warranty.
