Minor vs Major Car Service in Dubai, Price and What Is Included
In this guide

A minor service renews the engine oil and oil filter and runs the safety checks. A major service does all of that and adds the filters, spark plugs and fluids your schedule says are due. In Dubai, plan on about AED 350 to 900 for a minor service and AED 900 to 2,500 for a major one, including VAT, as a guide.

Minor vs major car service side by side

The two services share the same base. Both renew the oil and oil filter and check the car for safety problems.

The difference is what gets replaced. A major service adds the parts and fluids that wear out on a longer clock, so it costs more and takes longer.

Intervals and prices are general Dubai guides. Your handbook, service reminder and written quote decide the real work.

Which service does your car need?

Answer four quick questions. The result is a starting point, not a diagnosis, and we confirm it against your handbook before any work.

If the chooser does not load, use the table above. Under 15,000 km or 12 months since the last visit usually means a minor service, and around 40,000 km or two years usually means a major one.

What each service includes, system by system

Garages use the names minor and major in different ways. Reading the work by system makes quotes easier to compare.

The minor service in plain words

It is an oil and filter service with a proper set of checks around it. The checks catch worn pads, soft tyres or a weak battery before they leave you stuck.

The new filter seals matter as much as the oil. A cartridge filter needs fresh seals each time, and the right oil grade for your engine.

Not every major service includes everything

Spark plugs, brake fluid and coolant each run on their own clock. One major visit may need two of them, the next may need four.

Ask for a quote that names each part. A package called major that does not list the parts is hard to compare and easy to pad.

Minor and major service cost in Dubai

These are planning figures from our own car service page, which lists them as Dubai market budgets rather than a fixed price list. Your quote depends on the car.

Minor service guideAED 350 to 900Including 5 percent VAT
  • Oil to the correct specification
  • Oil filter and drain plug seal
  • Agreed safety checks and reminder reset
Major service guideAED 900 to 2,500Including 5 percent VAT
  • Everything in the minor service
  • Filters, plugs and fluids that are due
  • Lift inspection and fault code scan

Other Dubai sources give wider ranges. Lower figures usually cover basic oil and fewer checks, and higher ones reflect dealer labour or bigger engines.

What moves the price up or down

1

Oil capacity and grade

A small four cylinder may take 4 litres. A large V8 can take double that, often in a pricier approved grade.

2

Number of spark plugs

Four plugs on a compact car, eight on a V8. Some engines need the intake removed to reach the rear plugs.

3

Genuine or matching parts

Genuine and quality matching filters can differ in price. We show both side by side so you choose.

4

Items that are overdue

If the last major service was missed, today's visit may need items from two schedules at once.

Service intervals and Dubai heat

Every car runs on two clocks, distance and time. Whichever runs out first makes the service due, even if the car barely moves.

These are common points on many petrol cars in Dubai. The handbook for your exact engine always wins.

10,000 to 15,000 km

Minor service, or every 12 months. Oil, filter and safety checks.

About 2 years

Brake fluid is often due, whatever the mileage. Cabin filter usually yearly.

30,000 to 40,000 km

First major service on many cars. Air filter, cabin filter and a deeper check.

60,000 km and up

Spark plugs, coolant and gearbox fluid start to come due, by type.

Why Dubai cars often follow the severe schedule

Summer air above 45 degrees, long idling in traffic and fine dust all count as hard use in most handbooks. Oil ages faster, and air and cabin filters clog sooner.

Check whether your handbook has a severe use table. Following it is usually smarter than guessing at shorter intervals.

i

Short trips count too. A car that only does school runs and quick errands never fully warms up. Moisture and fuel collect in the oil, so the time limit matters as much as the mileage.

Signs your car is overdue for a service

Some cars give clear hints before the reminder appears. If you notice any of these, book a check rather than waiting.

Service reminder on the dash

It counts down distance and time. Once it shows, the car is due or past due.

Dark or low oil on the dipstick

Fresh oil is amber and clear. Black, gritty or below the low mark means it is time.

Weak AC airflow or a musty smell

A blocked cabin filter cuts airflow and holds dust and odour in the cabin.

Rough idle or slow pickup

Worn spark plugs and a dusty air filter make the engine work harder.

Soft or long brake pedal

Old brake fluid absorbs moisture and can fade on long downhill runs or in heavy traffic.

Fuel use creeping up

Tired plugs, a clogged filter and soft tyres all add to the fuel bill.

What skipping a service can cost

Skipping a service saves money once. The bill usually comes back later, larger and less convenient.

If you skipThe oil change

It can lead toSludge, faster wear on turbochargers and timing chains, and repairs that cost many times the service.

If you skipAir filter renewal

It can lead toLower power, higher fuel use and dust getting past a filter that is already saturated.

If you skipBrake fluid renewal

It can lead toA soft pedal, brake fade in heat and corrosion inside the ABS unit.

If you skipCoolant renewal

It can lead toCorrosion, a blocked radiator and overheating in summer traffic.

If you skipA logged service record

It can lead toA weaker warranty claim and a lower resale price when a buyer asks for history.

Does servicing outside the dealer void your UAE warranty?

Many owners pay dealer prices out of fear for the warranty. The UAE position is clearer than most people think.

What the rule says

According to a Khaleej Times legal explainer, the Ministry of Economy dropped the condition that cars must be serviced only at the dealer in 2016.

Dealers should not cancel a warranty only because the car was serviced at an approved centre outside their network. Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection applies.

What keeps your claim strong

  • Oil and parts that meet the maker specification
  • Itemised invoices with date, mileage and VIN
  • Services done on time, by distance or months
  • Warranty repairs and recalls taken to the dealer

Keep each invoice with the service booklet. Clear records are what a dealer looks for on a claim.

Always read your own warranty booklet. If a dealer refuses a valid claim, the explainer above points owners to the consumer protection department of the Ministry of Economy.

Minor vs major service questions

What is the difference between a minor and a major car service?

A minor service renews the engine oil and oil filter and checks the safety items. A major service adds the scheduled replacements that are due, such as air and cabin filters, spark plugs, brake fluid or coolant. The handbook decides which items belong in the major visit.

How much does a minor car service cost in Dubai?

A minor car service in Dubai is about AED 350 to 900 including VAT as a planning guide, based on our car service page. Other Dubai guides quote from about AED 150 to 900. Oil capacity, oil specification and the filter type move the final figure.

How much does a major car service cost in Dubai?

A major car service in Dubai is about AED 900 to 2,500 including VAT as a guide, based on our car service page. Larger engines, more spark plugs and dealer only parts can push it higher. The written quote should list every part being replaced.

How often should I get a minor service in Dubai?

Most cars need a minor service every 10,000 to 15,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first, unless the handbook says otherwise. Cars used for short trips, heavy idling or dusty roads often follow the shorter severe use interval.

How often do I need a major service?

A major service usually falls every 30,000 to 40,000 km or every two years, depending on the maker. Some brands use an on board reminder instead of fixed packages. Your handbook or service reminder is the real schedule.

Does a major service include an oil change?

Yes. A major service starts with the same oil and oil filter change as a minor service. It then adds the scheduled filters, plugs and fluids that are due at that mileage or age.

Is a minor service the same as an oil change?

Not quite. An oil change renews the oil and filter only. A minor service adds a set of checks on brakes, tyres, battery, lights, fluid levels and visible leaks, plus a reset of the service reminder.

How long does a minor or major service take?

A minor service usually takes about 1 to 2 hours and a major service about 3 to 5 hours once work starts and parts are ready. Overdue items or parts that need ordering can add time, so confirm collection when you book.

Will servicing outside the dealer void my warranty in the UAE?

Not by itself. UAE consumer rules stop dealers cancelling a warranty only because the car was serviced at an approved independent centre. Keep itemised invoices that show the correct oil and parts, and take warranty repairs and recalls to the official dealer.

Do I need a major service before selling my car?

It is not required. A recent, itemised service record helps a buyer trust the car and can support your asking price. If a major service is close, doing it before the sale often costs less than a price cut from the buyer.

Can I skip a major service if the car drives fine?

It is not a good idea. Old brake fluid, worn spark plugs and tired coolant rarely show symptoms until they cause a problem. Skipping scheduled items can also weaken a warranty claim later.

Where can I get a minor or major service in Dubai outside the dealer?

Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai is an independent workshop for minor and major servicing on most makes. We follow your handbook schedule and send a written, itemised quote before any work. Warranty repairs and recalls stay with the official dealer.

Not sure which service is due?

Send the make, model, year, mileage and the date of the last service. A photo of the reminder screen or last invoice helps.

The Mechanics team in Al Quoz will tell you whether a minor or major service is due and send a written quote before any work.
