In this guide
Most cars in Dubai should follow the severe service schedule, with an oil service about every 8,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first. Heat, dust, traffic and idling with the AC on are hard use in almost every owner manual. Always check your own manual, because it sets the real intervals for your engine.

A service interval is two limits, distance and time. Whichever runs out first makes the service due, even on a car that barely moves.
This guide explains which schedule fits Dubai, gives a planning table for each item, and adds brand notes. Prices come from our Dubai price guide.
Normal vs severe service schedule
Most owner manuals print two maintenance tables. The normal one assumes easy driving, and the severe one is for cars that work harder.
Normal schedule
Easy use- Mostly open road at steady speeds
- Trips long enough to fully warm the engine
- Clean, paved roads with little dust
- Mild air temperatures most of the year
- No towing and no heavy loads
Severe schedule
Hard use, typical in Dubai- Stop and go traffic and long idling
- Short trips where the engine stays cool
- Dusty roads, sand and desert driving
- High air temperatures for months at a time
- Towing, roof loads or heavy family use
Why Dubai usually counts as severe
Summer air above 45 degrees and hot engine bays age oil, coolant and rubber faster.
Fine sand clogs the engine air filter and cabin filter long before the mileage says so.
Stop and go driving loads the gearbox and brakes and keeps engine speed low.
School runs and quick errands never fully warm the oil, so moisture and fuel collect in it.
Waiting with the engine and AC running adds engine hours but no kilometres.

Service interval calculator
Pick how far you drive in a year, the kind of driving and the age of the car. The calculator shows roughly when your next minor and major services fall.
If the calculator does not load, plan a minor service every 10,000 km or 6 months for city driving, and a major service every 30,000 to 40,000 km or two years. Your owner manual comes first.

| AC service | Check once a year | Check before every summer | R134a refill AED 160 to 420, only if low |
| Battery check | Test at every service | Test before summer, more so near two years old | Battery fitted AED 200 to 1,000 or more |
| Tyre rotation | About every 10,000 km | With every oil service | Quoted with the service |
| Wheel alignment | Check once a year | Check yearly and after any kerb or pothole hit | AED 157.50 to 315 |
General guidance, always check your owner manual or service display. Prices are Dubai guides including 5 percent VAT from our price guide, checked 16 October 2026, and are not fixed Mechanics prices. Diesel, hybrid and electric cars follow their own schedules.
Items with their own clock
Brake fluid runs on time, plugs on distance and coolant on type and age. That is why one major service can need two items and the next one four.
A good quote names each item and why it is due. Our minor vs major service guide explains how the two visits differ.

Lifetime gearbox fluid in Dubai heat
Some makers call automatic gearbox fluid a lifetime fill. Heat and stop and go traffic still age it, and old fluid can make shifts harsh.
We check the fluid condition at each major service and follow your manual. A fluid and filter service is about AED 262.50 to 630 as a Dubai guide.
Brand notes for common Dubai cars
Each brand sets its schedule in its own way. These notes match our brand cost guides and the published UAE figures we found.
BMWCondition Based Service
The car tracks oil, brake fluid, plugs, the microfilter and a vehicle check separately and shows each due date. Dubai garages advise the oil service every 8,000 to 10,000 km or once a year.

Mercedes-BenzService A and B
The dash asks for Service A or B, and most cars alternate about once a year. One Dubai guide, PitStopArabia in October 2025, puts Service A at about 20,000 km or one year.

ToyotaLand Cruiser, Prado, Camry
Toyota service in the UAE is usually due every 10,000 km or 6 months, per YallaMotor. ZigWheels advises Land Cruiser owners who drive in the desert to treat that interval as a ceiling.

Nissan PatrolLarge 4x4
Nissan recommends servicing every six months or 10,000 km, whichever comes first, per a DubiCars Patrol guide. Desert use calls for extra air filter and underbody checks.

Range RoverLand Rover schedule
Range Rover UAE lists a scheduled service every 13,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Cars that idle in summer traffic or drive on sand should not stretch it.

How to read your owner manual schedule
The manual is the only schedule that fits your exact engine. Four quick steps get the right answer from it.
Find the maintenance section
Look for the scheduled maintenance or service chapter, or the service booklet that came with the car.
Check the severe use table
See which conditions it lists. If dust, traffic or short trips match your driving, use that table.
Note both limits
Write down the distance and the months for each item. The first one reached makes it due.
Match it to the display
Cars with a service display track some items live. Send a photo of it with the page when you book.
Low mileage cars and cars parked for the summer
A car that does 5,000 km a year still needs servicing on time. Oil ages in the sump, and short trips add moisture and fuel to it.
Cars left parked for weeks in summer face a different risk. The battery drains in the heat and tyres can flat spot, so a check before the car goes back into daily use is worth it.
Hybrid and electric cars follow their own schedules. They still need brake fluid, cabin filters, tyres and a 12 volt battery test, so ask for the maker schedule for your model.
Signs your interval is too long
Some cars show it before the reminder does. Book a check if you notice any of these.
- Oil dark or low well before the next service is due
- Weak AC airflow or a musty smell from the vents
- Rough idle or slow pickup at traffic lights
- Soft brake pedal after long downhill or hot traffic runs
- Temperature gauge rising in summer queues
- Harsh gear changes once the car is fully warm

Service interval questions
How often should a car be serviced in Dubai?
Most cars in Dubai should have a minor service every 8,000 to 10,000 km or every 6 months, whichever comes first, as general guidance for severe use. Toyota and Nissan schedules in the UAE already use 10,000 km or 6 months. Always check your owner manual first.
What is a severe service schedule?
It is the shorter schedule in your owner manual for hard use, such as dusty roads, heavy traffic, long idling, short trips and towing. Oil, filters and some fluids are changed sooner than on the normal schedule.
Does Dubai driving count as severe use?
Usually, yes. Summer heat, fine dust, stop and go traffic, short school runs and long idling with the AC on match the severe use conditions most owner manuals list. Mostly highway driving in cooler months is closer to normal use.
How often should I change engine oil in the UAE heat?
Plan on about 8,000 to 10,000 km or 6 months for most petrol cars in Dubai, as general guidance. Some brands and oils allow longer, so follow the oil approval and interval in your owner manual, or the service display if your car has one.
How often should I replace the cabin air filter in Dubai?
About once a year for most cars, and sooner if airflow drops or the AC smells musty. Dust clogs it quickly. A cabin filter costs about AED 105 to 315 fitted as a Dubai guide, from our price guide.
How often does brake fluid need changing?
Many makers set brake fluid at every two years, whatever the mileage, because the fluid absorbs moisture over time. A brake fluid change in Dubai costs about AED 130 to 265 as a guide, including VAT.
When is gearbox fluid due?
It depends on the gearbox, since some manuals list a fixed interval and others call it a lifetime fill. Heat and stop and go traffic age the fluid faster, so have it checked at each major service. A fluid and filter service is about AED 262.50 to 630 as a guide.
How often should I service my car if I drive very little?
Go by time, not distance. Oil ages even when the car stands, and short trips make it worse. Most cars still need at least one service a year, and in Dubai often every 6 months.
What is the difference between a minor and a major service interval?
A minor service, mainly oil, filter and checks, comes round every 6 to 12 months. A major service, which adds filters, plugs and fluids that are due, usually falls every 30,000 to 40,000 km or two years. Your manual sets the real items.
How often does a BMW or Mercedes need servicing in Dubai?
BMW uses Condition Based Service, and Dubai garages advise an oil service every 8,000 to 10,000 km or once a year. Mercedes alternates Service A and B, and one Dubai guide puts Service A at about 20,000 km or one year. The car display sets the items.
Does following the severe schedule affect my warranty?
No, servicing more often than the minimum never breaks a warranty. What matters is meeting your booklet schedule with the right oil and parts and keeping itemised invoices. Our dealer vs independent guide explains the UAE rules.
Where can I get a car serviced on the right schedule in Dubai?
Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai services most makes on the schedule in your owner manual, adjusted for Dubai use where the manual allows. You get a free initial inspection and a written quote before any work.
Not sure which service is next?
Send the make, model, year, mileage and the date of the last service. A photo of the service display or the last invoice helps.
The Mechanics team in Al Quoz will match it to your owner manual and send a written quote before any work.
