In this guide
In most cases, servicing your car at an independent garage in the UAE does not void the warranty by itself. UAE consumer rules treat a dealer only maintenance condition as a harmful term, but your claim still depends on following the booklet, using the right oil and parts, and keeping itemised invoices. Recalls and warranty repairs belong at the dealer.

Warranty repairs, recalls, software campaigns, prepaid plans and high voltage work on cars under cover.
Routine servicing on a car under warranty, if you follow the booklet and keep every invoice.
Cars past their warranty, wear parts, second opinions and repairs where you want a choice of parts.
This is the question luxury car owners in Dubai ask us most. Paying dealer rates out of fear can cost thousands a year, but losing a valid warranty claim costs more.
Does servicing outside the dealer void your warranty in the UAE?
The short answer is no, not on its own. The longer answer has a few steps, because the rule took years to settle and still has conditions.
Ministry of Economy position
According to a Khaleej Times legal explainer, the Ministry of Economy said in 2016 that conditions forcing owners to service at the dealer were abolished. Owners could use service centres approved by the standards authority, then known as ESMA.
Still waiting for the final step
A Gulf News report from November 2018 said the change still needed final approval, together with a planned star rating for workshops. For a while, dealer terms and the ministry position did not fully match.
Written into the consumer protection rules
Cabinet Resolution No. 66 of 2023 set out the executive rules of Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection. Article 34 lists terms that are harmful to the consumer, and item 13 covers dealer only maintenance.
What it means for you
A dealer cannot simply require all maintenance at the agency. It can still refuse a claim if the fault came from the wrong oil, the wrong part or a missed service.
Setting conditions for the need to carry out maintenance at the agency within a certain period of time, and not to perform any maintenance or repair outside the agency, taking into account the assessment of the concerned authority and the extent to which approved centres are available to carry out this type of maintenance.Article 19, item 2
The provider shall clearly and explicitly state the cases that invalidate the warranty, and the consumer shall be notified thereof prior to purchase.

Two things follow from that wording. First, the approved centre condition matters, so ask any independent garage which approvals it holds. Second, the seller must tell you up front what cancels your warranty, so your booklet is the document to read.
If a dealer refuses a claim you believe is valid, the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism takes consumer complaints. Ask the dealer for the refusal and its reason in writing first.
Is my warranty at risk? checker
Pick your car's age, its distance, the warranty status and the job you need. The checker says whether the dealer, an independent garage or either one is the sensible choice.
If the checker does not load, send recalls, warranty repairs and high voltage work to the dealer. Routine servicing can go either way if you follow the booklet, and cars past their warranty suit an independent garage.
The suggestion updates as you answer.
General guidance only. Your warranty booklet decides.

A dealer looks at evidence when it assesses a claim. Five things give you that evidence, and every one of them is in your control.
Service on time
Follow the booklet by distance or months, whichever comes first. A late service is the easiest reason to refuse a claim.
Approved oil
Use oil with the approval code your engine needs, not just the right thickness. The code is in the booklet.
Maker spec parts
Genuine, or OEM parts from the same supplier, that meet the maker specification for filters, plugs and fluids.
Stamped record
A stamp or digital entry in the service record, with the date, mileage and workshop details.
Itemised receipts
Every invoice kept, listing each part, its brand and the oil grade. Photos of the reminder reset help too.

What a warranty friendly invoice shows
- CarVIN, mileage and date
- OilBrand, grade and approval code
- PartsBrand and part number for each
- LabourEach job on its own line
- WorkshopName, trade licence and contact

The oil is where most claims are won or lost
Modern engines are built around a specific oil approval. Using a cheaper oil of the same thickness can still break the booklet rules.
Ask any garage to write the approval code on the invoice. If it cannot tell you the code, that is a warning sign.
When the dealer is the right choice
An honest independent garage will send you back to the dealer for some jobs. These are the cases where the dealer is free, safer or simply the only option.
Warranty repairs
A covered fault is repaired at no cost to you. Paying an independent garage for the same job wastes money.
Applies while factory or dealer cover is running.
Recalls and service campaigns
Recalls are free and are checked against your VIN. Ask the dealer to run it before paying for related work.
Applies to any age of car.
Software updates
Some updates and module coding are released only through the dealer network for your brand.
Common on newer cars with many control units.
Prepaid service plans
If servicing is already paid for in a dealer plan, use it before paying anyone else.
Check the plan end date and distance limit.
High voltage work
Battery and motor work on hybrids and electric cars under cover goes to the dealer. The Taycan high voltage battery, for example, has its own long warranty.
12 volt, tyre and brake work is a different matter.

Warranty lengths differ a lot by brand. Range Rover UAE lists 5 years or 150,000 km on new cars, per Range Rover UAE. Nissan Dubai offers 3 years or 100,000 km plus a 2 year extended warranty, per a DubiCars Patrol guide dated 14 August 2026.
Dealer vs independent cost in Dubai
Dealers in Dubai rarely publish service prices, so a clean side by side is hard to find. These are the published figures we trust, with their sources and dates.

|---|---|---|---|
| Labour per hour, Mercedes-Benz | AED 400 or more | About AED 375 | PitStopArabia Mercedes servicing guide, 8 October 2025 |

Where the gap really comes from
Labour rate, parts mark up and package contents explain most of the difference. A dealer package may include checks you do not need, and a cheap independent package may leave out items you do.
Compare quotes line by line, never by the package name. Our price guide shows how a quote should be laid out.
Service packages, plans and contracts
Prepaid plans change the maths. Before choosing a garage, check what you have already paid for and what you might buy.
Sold with the car
BMW Service Inclusive, for example, has been bundled by AGMC for 5 years or 100,000 km on some offers, per a DubiCars report of 21 August 2025.
Bought later
Prepays your minor and major services for a set period. Our car service contract guide shows how to test any contract price.
No commitment
Suits low mileage drivers and cars you may sell soon. You pay only for the visits you make.
A service plan is not a warranty. A plan pays for scheduled servicing, while a warranty pays when a covered part fails.

How to choose an independent garage in Dubai
A good independent garage should make the warranty question easier, not harder. Ask these eight questions before you hand over the keys.
- Will I get a written, itemised quote before any work starts?
- Which oil approval code will you use for my engine?
- Which parts grade and brand will you fit, and can I see options?
- Which diagnostic tools do you use for my brand?
- How do you handle extra findings, with photos and my approval first?
- Will the invoice show VIN, mileage and part numbers?
- What cover do you give on your own parts and labour?
- Will you tell me when a job belongs at the dealer?

How Mechanics handles it
We start with a free initial inspection and a written quote, with genuine and matching parts side by side where it is safe.
If a fault looks like warranty or recall work, we tell you before touching it. See our Al Quoz garage page for how a visit works.

Dealer vs independent garage questions
Does servicing my car outside the dealer void the warranty in the UAE?
Not by itself, in most cases. UAE consumer rules list a condition that bans maintenance outside the agency as a term harmful to the consumer, with regard to approved centres being available. Your warranty booklet still sets the service schedule, so follow it and keep itemised invoices.
What does UAE law say about car servicing and warranty?
Cabinet Resolution No. 66 of 2023, the rules under Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection, lists dealer only maintenance conditions as harmful terms. It also requires sellers to state clearly, before you buy, the cases that cancel a warranty. This is general information, not legal advice.
What keeps my warranty safe at an independent garage?
Follow the booklet schedule by distance and time, use oil with the approval code your engine needs, fit parts that meet the maker specification, and keep an itemised invoice for every visit with the date, mileage and VIN. Take recalls and warranty repairs to the dealer.
When should I go to the dealer instead of an independent garage?
Go to the dealer for repairs covered by the warranty, recalls and software campaigns checked by VIN, services already paid for in a prepaid plan, and high voltage battery or motor work on hybrids and electric cars that are still under cover.
Is an independent garage cheaper than the dealer in Dubai?
Usually, for work outside warranty. One Dubai guide lists Mercedes labour at about AED 375 an hour at independents against AED 400 or more at authorised workshops, and a CarSwitch guide says Range Rover agency servicing runs about 30 to 50 percent higher.
Can the dealer refuse a warranty claim after an independent service?
A dealer can still refuse a claim if the fault was caused by the wrong oil, the wrong part or a missed service. That is why records matter. If you believe a valid claim was refused, the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism takes consumer complaints.
Do I have to use genuine parts to keep my warranty?
Read your booklet. Most ask for parts and fluids that meet the maker specification, which can include OEM parts from the same supplier. Ask the garage to name each part, its grade and brand on the invoice, so you can show what was fitted.
Should I use my prepaid service plan or pay an independent garage?
Use a plan you have already paid for. BMW Service Inclusive from AGMC, for example, has been bundled for 5 years or 100,000 km on some offers. Once a plan ends, compare a written independent quote, or see our car service contract guide.
Are recalls free at the dealer?
Yes. Recalls and service campaigns are carried out by the official dealer at no charge, and they are checked against your VIN. Ask the dealer to run your VIN before paying anyone else for work on the same part.
What should a service invoice show for warranty purposes?
The date, mileage, VIN, the oil brand, grade and approval code, every part with its brand and part number, the labour and the workshop details. Keep it with the service booklet and a photo of the reminder reset.
How do I choose a good independent garage in Dubai?
Ask for a written, itemised quote before work, the oil approval it will use, which diagnostic tools it has for your brand, how it handles extra findings, and what cover it gives on its own work. Check that it tells you when a job belongs at the dealer.
Where can I service my car in Dubai outside the dealer?
Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai is an independent workshop for most makes, from Toyota and Nissan to BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover. You get a free initial inspection and a written quote first. Warranty, recall and high voltage work stays with your official dealer.
Not sure if your job belongs at the dealer?
Send the make, model, year, mileage and your warranty end date. A photo of the booklet page or the warning message helps.
The Mechanics team in Al Quoz will tell you honestly if the dealer is the better place, and send a written quote if it is not.
