This guide brings together what owners in Dubai actually pay to keep a car on the road. Servicing, wear parts and the repairs that come up most often are all here.
Every figure is a published guide, not a fixed price. Our own numbers come from our Dubai price guide, and outside figures link to the page they came from.
Yearly car maintenance budget in Dubai by car class
The budget depends far more on the badge than on the garage. A Yaris and a Range Rover can share a lift, yet one costs several times more to keep running.
The two middle columns are built from our price guide. The last column shows what other Dubai and UAE guides publish, so you can compare.

One minor service plus half a major service, because most cars need a major visit every two years.
Adds a fitted battery and brake pads. Everyday cars use one axle, premium and luxury use front and rear.
Everyday rows include 5 percent VAT. Premium and luxury service and brake prices are published before VAT.
Premium and luxury service and brake figures come from the Rapido Garage price list, as shown on our price guide. Outside figures were checked on 16 October 2026. YallaMotor updated its guide on 6 October 2026, CarSwitch published on 8 June 2026, and PitStopArabia on 13 August 2025 and 3 June 2026.

Why the same job has a wide range
Brake pads for a small hatchback and for a heavy SUV are different parts with different labour. The range covers both.
Your quote narrows it to one figure. It should list the part grade, the brand and the labour on separate lines.
What drives car maintenance costs in Dubai
Labour rates are only part of the story. The climate is the bigger reason Dubai owners spend more than they expect.
Four things do most of the damage. Each one has a cost you can plan for.
Heat shortens battery life
Under the bonnet, summer heat speeds up the chemistry inside a battery. Dubai garages report two to three years of life, not the four or five seen in cooler places.
AED 200 to 1,000 or more for a fitted battery, by size and type. Life figure from BritFix and PitStopArabia.
The AC works almost all year
The compressor runs hard for most months, often in slow traffic. Small leaks and a tired condenser fan show up first as warm air at idle.
AED 160 to 420 for an R134a refill, AED 1,260 to 4,725 for a compressor. One UAE guide suggests AED 300 to 500 a year for AC upkeep, DubiCars.
Hot roads age tyres faster
Hot asphalt and long motorway runs wear the rubber and dry it out. Tyre age matters here as much as tread depth.
AED 212 to 573 per common 16 inch tyre, fitted. AED 1,200 to 2,000 a set for sedans and AED 1,800 to 3,500 for SUVs, CarSwitch.
Fine sand clogs filters
Dust blocks the engine air filter and the cabin filter long before the mileage says so. A blocked cabin filter also weakens AC airflow.
Most handbooks count dust, heat and heavy idling as severe use. That usually means yearly cabin filters and shorter service intervals.

Why sand costs more than a filter
A saturated air filter lets fine dust reach the engine and robs power. The filter itself is one of the cheapest parts on the car.
Ask for it to be checked at every visit if you drive near the desert or on dusty roads.

Dealer vs independent garage costs in Dubai
For most work outside warranty, an independent garage costs less for the same job. The gap comes mainly from labour rates and parts mark up.
These published figures show the size of the gap. Your own quotes are the real test.
| Item | Main dealer | Independent garage | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Labour per hour | AED 350 to 550 | AED 150 to 250 at a specialist, AED 80 to 150 at a general workshop | BritFix |
| Routine visit, Toyota, Nissan, Honda | AED 700 to 1,200 | AED 400 to 800 | CarSwitch |
| Routine visit, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, VW | AED 1,500 to 3,500 | AED 900 to 2,000 | CarSwitch |
| Toyota oil and filter | AED 175 to 210 | AED 120 to 160 | YallaMotor |
| Major service example | AED 3,500 to 5,500 | AED 1,500 to 2,500 | BritFix |
| Warranty and recall work | Done here | Sent back to the dealer | Your warranty booklet |
Will an independent service void your warranty?
According to a Khaleej Times legal explainer, the Ministry of Economy dropped the rule that cars must be serviced only at the dealer in 2016.
Dealers should not cancel a warranty only because the car was serviced at an approved centre outside their network.
When the dealer is the right call
- Repairs covered by the factory warranty
- Recalls and software campaigns, checked by VIN
- Any work your warranty booklet says must be done there
- New models where parts and data are dealer only
How to cut car maintenance costs without risk
The cheapest car to run is the one that is serviced on time. Most big bills start as a small fault that was left alone.
Ways to spend less
- Follow the severe use schedule if your handbook has one. It costs less than the repairs it prevents.
- Test the battery before summer, and replace it on your terms instead of at the roadside.
- Ask for an itemised written quote and compare the same items, not package names.
- Pick OEM or quality aftermarket parts for wear items on older cars.
- Combine jobs that share labour, such as a water pump with a timing belt.
- Keep invoices. A full record helps warranty claims and resale value.
Places not to cut corners
- Brake pads, discs and brake fluid. Never choose these on price alone.
- Tyres that are old or cracked, even with tread left.
- Steering joints and suspension parts that hold the wheels in place.
- Airbags, sensors and modules that need genuine parts and coding.
- Coolant and radiator faults, because overheating can ruin an engine.
- Any warning light that stays on after a restart.

A minor car service in Dubai is about AED 350 to 900 and a major service about AED 900 to 2,500, including VAT, as a guide from our price page. Premium and performance models cost more. The written quote should name every part and fluid.
How much does a luxury car cost to maintain in Dubai each year?
A luxury SUV or performance car can cost about AED 5,750 to 9,975 or more in a year that needs servicing, a battery and brake pads, built from published Dubai figures. Supercars are higher again, with one Dubai guide listing AED 10,000 to 25,000 or more for scheduled maintenance alone.
Is it cheaper to service a car at an independent garage in Dubai?
Usually, yes. One Dubai garage guide lists main dealer labour at about AED 350 to 550 an hour against AED 150 to 250 at an independent specialist. A UAE ownership guide puts a routine visit for Toyota, Nissan and Honda at AED 400 to 800 independent and AED 700 to 1,200 at the dealer.
What is the hourly labour rate for mechanics in Dubai?
Published Dubai rates run from about AED 80 to 150 an hour at a general workshop to AED 350 to 550 at a main dealer. Brand and luxury specialists sit in between at about AED 150 to 350. Ask for labour as its own line on the quote.
How often does a car battery need replacing in Dubai?
Plan on a new battery about every two to three years in Dubai, because heat shortens battery life. A fitted battery costs about AED 200 to 1,000 or more as a guide, depending on size and type. Testing it before summer avoids most surprise no starts.
How much does car AC repair cost in Dubai?
An AC gas refill in Dubai is about AED 160 to 420 for R134a systems and AED 370 to 740 for R1234yf, including VAT, as a guide. A minor leak repair is about AED 210 to 840. A compressor replacement runs about AED 1,260 to 4,725 or more on luxury models.

Why are car running costs higher in Dubai than people expect?
Heat, AC use and dust are the main reasons. Batteries wear out sooner, the AC works hard most of the year, and fine sand clogs air and cabin filters. Most handbooks treat these conditions as severe use, which means shorter service intervals.
Do older cars cost more to maintain in Dubai?
Yes, as a rule. After the factory warranty ends, wear parts and repairs fall on the owner, and one UAE guide suggests budgeting AED 1,000 to 1,500 a year for out of warranty repairs on used cars. Regular servicing keeps that figure lower.

Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai is an independent workshop that services and repairs most makes, from everyday Toyota and Nissan models to BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover. You get a free initial inspection and a written, itemised quote first. Warranty and recall work stays with your official UAE dealer.
