What does brake repair cost?

A pad change, a damaged disc and a hydraulic leak need different work. These market-informed planning estimates help you compare the work. Your Mechanics price is confirmed for your vehicle after the fault and suitable parts are identified.

WorkIndicative fitted budget including 5% VATWhat the budget covers
Standard brake padsAED 265–850 per axle, including 5% VATPads for both wheels on one axle and routine fitting. New discs, wear sensors and caliper repairs are additional if required.
Conventional discs and padsAED 840–2,100 per axle, including 5% VATA pair of conventional steel brake discs, matching pads and routine fitting on one axle. Specialist performance and carbon ceramic systems are excluded.
Brake fluid changeAED 130–265 per vehicle, including 5% VATSpecified brake fluid and routine replacement and bleeding. Leak repairs or additional procedures for a hydraulic fault need a separate quote.
Caliper, hydraulic or ABS repairQuote after diagnosisThe cost depends on the failed component and whether it can be serviced or needs replacement. We confirm any additional diagnostic charge before proceeding.

What the prices include

These rounded planning estimates allow for the named parts, routine fitting and 5% VAT. One axle means both front wheels or both rear wheels. The figures are not a fixed Mechanics price list.

What changes your quote

The car’s brake package, chosen parts, wear sensors and any additional fault affect the total. The initial inspection is free. Further diagnostic work is quoted separately, and your itemised quote confirms parts, labour, extras and VAT.

Choose the work your car needs

Pads, discs or a deeper repair?

Repair decisions should follow the condition of the whole braking system. Replacing a worn item without addressing the cause can bring the same problem back.

Pad replacement

When the discs remain serviceable

Replacing the brake pads may be enough when the discs remain within specification and the calipers operate correctly.

  • Match the friction material and pad shape to the car
  • Replace the pad set across the affected axle
  • Check slide pins, hardware and wear sensors

Discs and pads

When the disc cannot be reused

Discs below their minimum thickness, cracked or damaged beyond the permitted limits need replacement. We check the cause of uneven wear as well.

  • Measure against the correct minimum thickness
  • Assess both discs on the axle as a pair
  • Check hub condition and matching pads

Steel and performance systems

Disc diameter, ventilation and material affect compatibility and price. Carbon ceramic brakes require a separate assessment.

Calipers and hydraulics

When pressure or movement is wrong

A sticking piston, damaged seal, restricted hose or leaking line needs diagnosis before choosing a repair. Some calipers can be serviced while others need replacement.

  • Check hoses, pipes and connections for leaks
  • Assess the master cylinder or booster when indicated
  • Use the specified fluid and bleeding procedure

Rear drums and parking brakes

Where fitted, shoes, wheel cylinders, cables and electronic actuators are assessed separately.

Start with what you feel

Which brake problem needs attention?

A symptom points us towards the right checks. It does not prove that a particular part needs replacing.

Grinding or persistent squealing

Metallic grinding can mean the friction material is worn away. Our guide to signs of worn brake pads explains the common clues. Squealing has several possible causes, so we inspect pad thickness, disc surfaces and fitting hardware before quoting parts.

Shaking when braking

Pedal pulsation or steering shake can involve disc thickness variation, runout or a problem at the hub. We also check for a sticking caliper and relevant wheel or suspension faults rather than assuming every vibration is a warped disc.

Pulling or a dragging wheel

Uneven braking, a hot wheel or a burning smell can point to a binding caliper, restricted hose or parking brake fault. Tyre condition can also contribute to pulling. The inspection checks both sides of the axle.

Soft or sinking pedal, fluid leak or reduced brakingStop in a safe place and do not continue driving if braking is compromised. Call for help arranging recovery. Topping up fluid or fitting pads alone does not resolve a hydraulic fault.
ABS, brake or parking brake warningTell us the warning colour and whether the pedal feels different. A diagnostic scan needs to be followed by checks of the affected circuit or component. A fault code alone is not a reason to replace the ABS pump. Our ABS warning light guide explains what the warning can mean.
The checks behind the recommendation

Measurements before replacement

A useful assessment tells you what has worn, what can remain in service and which test supports the repair.

Pads, discs and the hubInner and outer pad wear can differ. Disc thickness is checked against its minimum specification. For judder, disc variation, runout and hub condition may need checking. A visible lip alone does not decide replacement.
Calipers, pressure and ABS dataLeaks, restricted hoses and caliper movement guide hydraulic checks. Anti-lock braking system faults can require wheel-speed data, wiring and electrical supply tests. ABS module repair is considered when diagnosis identifies a module fault, rather than replacing it for every warning.

Bring the right vehicle details. The model, year and optional VIN help identify disc diameter, pad shape, wear sensors and the fitted brake package. Tell us about performance options or modifications.

Discs that need replacement are changed in axle pairs. Machining is considered only where the manufacturer permits it and the finished disc remains within specification.

Parts and fitted work

Compare the parts and what is included

Two quotes only compare fairly when they cover the same axle, parts, fitting and extras. Ask which manufacturer and part number are proposed for your car.

Steel brake discs and matching pads.

A genuine part carries the vehicle manufacturer's branding. For an OEM or aftermarket alternative, compare the actual manufacturer, compatible part number and stated warranty. A label alone does not prove equivalence.

Tell us about towing, heavy loads, track use or a modified brake system. Performance friction material is not automatically the right choice for everyday driving.

Match the complete jobConfirm both wheels on the affected axle, the selected pads or discs, wear sensors, fitting and VAT. A pads-only price cannot be compared with pads, discs and a caliper repair.
Fluid and parking brakesA pad change does not automatically include new fluid. Fluid specification and intervals follow the manufacturer. Rear drums, cables and electronic parking brakes need the correct vehicle-specific checks and service procedure.
Hybrid and electric carsRegenerative braking can reduce friction-brake use, but low pad wear does not rule out corrosion or a sticking caliper. Share the exact model so we can confirm the appropriate procedure.
Timing and warranty before approvalAsk for availability, collection timing and the warranty on the chosen parts and labour. Seized fittings, leaks or ordered components can extend the visit. Written terms should identify time or mileage limits and normal-wear exclusions.
Plan your workshop visit

From the first call to collection

Send the make, model, year and what you have noticed. A photo of a dashboard warning or a recording taken safely can help the team prepare.

Arrange the visit

We confirm a workshop time or discuss pickup in Dubai. Mention parking access and whether the car can be moved safely. Recovery for an unsafe vehicle needs suitable transport and an agreed charge.

Review the repair quote

Review the findings, parts choice and itemised total before work starts. If further diagnosis reveals additional work, the revised scope needs your approval. An enquiry alone does not confirm a booking.

Understand the handover

The completion checks follow the repair and include pedal response, leaks, relevant warnings and functional or road testing where safe. Keep the invoice, applicable warranty terms and any running-in instructions with your service records.

Brake repair questions

Practical answers about cost, timing, parts and the next step for your car.

Talk to the workshop
How much does brake repair cost in Dubai?

Indicative Dubai budgets are AED 265–850 for standard pads on one axle, AED 840–2,100 for conventional discs and pads on one axle, and AED 130–265 for a routine fluid change. The named work includes routine fitting and 5% VAT. These are planning estimates, not a fixed Mechanics tariff. Your exact price depends on the vehicle, selected parts and confirmed fault.

How long will my car need to stay?

Straightforward pad or disc work may be completed within one working day when the correct parts are available. Seized components, hydraulic repairs, further diagnosis or ordered parts can take longer. Share your model, year and required collection time when booking. The workshop confirms the timing for your repair.

Do squeaky brakes always need new pads?

No. Squealing can come from worn pads, vibration at the pad or caliper, contamination, or disc surface condition. A noise alone does not identify the repair. An inspection checks the friction material and related components before deciding whether cleaning, servicing or replacement is appropriate.

Can you skim the discs instead of replacing them?

Only where the vehicle and disc manufacturer permit machining and the finished disc will remain within the required limits. Cracks, excessive corrosion, heat damage or insufficient thickness can rule it out. Carbon ceramic discs require their own assessment. Ask for the measurements and the reason for the recommended option.

Can I drive with a brake or ABS warning light?

A red brake warning that remains after the parking brake is released, a sinking pedal, fluid leakage or reduced braking needs immediate attention. Stop safely and arrange recovery if braking is compromised. An amber ABS warning may mean anti-lock assistance is unavailable even if the pedal feels normal. Follow the vehicle handbook and contact the workshop promptly. Clearing the warning does not repair the fault.

Do both axles need new brakes at the same time?

Not necessarily. Pads are replaced as a set across the affected axle, but the front and rear can wear at different rates. The condition and measurements determine whether one or both axles need work. Disc replacement is assessed in axle pairs according to the applicable specification.

What warranty applies to my brake repair?

Ask Mechanics to confirm the terms for the selected parts and work before you approve the repair. Check the covered components and labour, the time or mileage limit, normal-wear exclusions and the claim process. Keep the written terms and invoice. Do not assume every brake job has the same cover.
