How to read the prices

The figures are rounded planning estimates per vehicle with a 5% VAT allowance included. They are not fixed offers or measured market averages. The rows describe separate jobs and should not be added together as a package.

The free initial inspection does not include every pressure test or electrical investigation. Dedicated diagnosis, condenser and evaporator work need a vehicle-specific quote. Additional diagnosis, recharge and parts are itemised where needed.

Why your car changes the quote

A standard compressor on a mainstream car can sit towards the lower part of the replacement range. Premium European models, electric compressors, rear AC circuits and difficult access can cost more.

The exact compressor number and fitted system matter more than a brand name alone. Choose your brand below when sending a vehicle-specific enquiry.

Choose the right work

Refill, repair or replace?

We separate the refrigerant circuit, airflow and controls before recommending work. A weak cabin fan does not automatically need gas, and warm air does not automatically need a new compressor.

Recharge the system

When the charge needs correcting

The specified refrigerant and charge quantity are identified from the vehicle information. A routine recharge restores the correct amount after the required checks or repair.

  • Match refrigerant type and charge weight
  • Recover, evacuate and recharge appropriately
  • Check cooling after the work

If the last refill lasted only a short time, tell us. Repeating it without investigating the loss can mean paying again for the same unresolved fault.

Repair the fault

When a repairable cause is found

A serviceable connection, hose, fan circuit, pressure sensor or control fault may need targeted work. The proposed repair follows the test result and the component's condition.

  • Identify the leak or control problem
  • Keep serviceable components where suitable
  • Include recharge only when required

A cabin filter or blower issue belongs to the airflow side of the system. It should not be sold as a refrigerant problem.

Replace a component

When repair is unsuitable

A leaking condenser or evaporator, internally damaged compressor or failed blower assembly may need replacement. We compare suitable available parts for the exact car.

  • Confirm fitment before ordering
  • Account for access and additional work
  • Compare parts and warranty terms

A contaminated refrigerant circuit can require more than a compressor alone. Any necessary cleaning or additional components belong in the estimate.

Tell us what changes

Cooling faults worth checking

Cold while moving, warm at idleCondenser airflow, cooling fans, charge condition and compressor operation need assessment. Record whether it changes with traffic, fan speed or engine speed. Our guide to a radiator fan that is not working explains why fan faults can affect cooling at idle.
Cooling stops after a whileAn intermittent control fault, pressure condition or icing can need checks while the symptom is present. Tell us how long it takes and whether restarting changes it.
One side warm, the other coldDual-zone settings, air-mixing actuators and refrigerant performance can contribute. Set both zones alike before describing the difference. It does not by itself identify a failed part.

Noise or a burning smell needs attention. Switch off the AC if severe noise starts with its operation. Smoke, belt distress or an engine temperature warning needs safe stopping and prompt advice. Call the workshop to discuss the next step.

For a straightforward explanation of the system, our guide to the main car AC components explains how the compressor, condenser and evaporator work together.

What a compressor quote should cover

Compressor diagnosis includes its drive or electrical supply, controls, refrigerant condition and pressure behaviour as appropriate. A compressor that is not being commanded to run is different from one that has failed internally.

Ask which part is being supplied. Compare the actual maker, part number and condition. A new genuine assembly, a suitable new branded alternative and a rebuilt unit are different offers. A used part has an unknown service history unless documented. Availability and suitability are confirmed for your vehicle.

Include the supporting work. The estimate should identify oil specification and balancing, refrigerant recharge, seals, receiver-drier requirements and any contamination treatment. Not every component can be flushed or reused. The compressor maker's installation requirements and the vehicle procedure guide the work.

Electric compressors need a separate check. Specified insulating oil and appropriate high-voltage procedures can be essential. Send the exact hybrid or EV model so the team can confirm capability and parts before an appointment.

Airflow, odour and cabin moisture

When gas is not the answer

Little air from the vents. The cabin filter, intake, blower and fan controls affect airflow. A fan that works only at certain speeds may need electrical checks. If the motor or its control unit is faulty, blower motor repair or replacement addresses that part of the system.

A musty smell or wet footwell. Filter condition, moisture, evaporator contamination and condensate drainage need different checks. Cleaning is not a substitute for repairing a confirmed refrigerant leak. Where the cooling coil itself is leaking, evaporator replacement may involve substantial dashboard access.

A sweet smell, misting or coolant loss. These can point towards the heating circuit rather than an AC gas issue. Heater core replacement concerns the cabin heat exchanger when it is confirmed faulty. Report coolant loss or an engine temperature warning promptly.

Replace filters according to the vehicle schedule and their condition. A refrigerant refill is not an automatic annual requirement. Tell us about previous refills, leak repairs or cleaning so the next check starts with useful history.

Mechanics in Al Quoz

Arrange your AC check

Start with your model, year and the symptom. Mechanics offers a free initial inspection and written quotes. Ask about pickup across Dubai and any collection arrangements when you contact the workshop.

Describe the problem

Tell us whether airflow is weak or the air is warm, when it happens and how long the last refill lasted. A warning photo or prior invoice can help. Your VIN can be supplied later if needed to identify parts.

Review the estimate

The proposed work identifies the fault, parts choice, labour, recharge where required and total. Additional diagnosis is priced separately from the free initial inspection. Agree the repair and expected stay before proceeding.

Check the handover

Ask about the cooling test under the relevant conditions and any remaining concern. Keep the invoice and applicable written warranty terms. If the same fault returns, report when it happens and what changed after the work.

Feedback about the workshop. On the Mechanics homepage, Fatima Al-Mansoori describes the explanation and handover as From the detailed explanation of repairs needed to the swift turnaround time, everything was handled impeccably. This is general workshop feedback, not an AC repair case study.

Before your visit

Car AC repair questions

Answers about the likely work, timing, aftercare and your vehicle.

Does warm air mean the AC needs gas?

Not necessarily. Low refrigerant, poor condenser airflow, compressor control faults and air-mixing faults can all reduce cooling. A refill addresses the charge level. It does not repair a leak, failed fan or faulty compressor.

How long will the repair take?

A straightforward recharge often needs around an hour once the system is assessed. Leak tracing, compressor replacement or dashboard access can take substantially longer. Mechanics confirms the expected stay after identifying the work and parts availability. Ask about pickup when arranging the visit.

Can the compressor be repaired?

Some external faults, seals, clutches or control components may be serviceable on the specific compressor. Internal wear, seizure, contamination or an unsuitable assembly can require replacement. Compare the complete repair cost, condition and warranty with a correctly matched replacement.

Is AC cleaning included with a refill?

No automatic inclusion should be assumed. Refrigerant charging, cabin filter replacement, evaporator cleaning and drain work solve different problems. Ask for the itemised scope, especially if your concern is odour or weak airflow rather than warm air.

What warranty applies to AC work?

Ask Mechanics for the written terms for the selected repair and parts. Confirm covered components and labour, duration or mileage, exclusions and the claim process. A refrigerant recharge and a replacement compressor can have different conditions. Keep the written terms with your invoice.

Can you check a hybrid or electric car?

Send the exact make, model and year first so the workshop can confirm the service requirements. An electric compressor may need specified insulating oil and high-voltage procedures. Heat-pump and battery thermal-management faults can also extend beyond a conventional cabin AC repair.

Can I keep driving with an AC fault?

Warm cabin air alone does not identify an engine fault, but heat, misted windows or an unwell passenger can make a journey unsafe. Stop safely if visibility or comfort is compromised. A burning smell, severe belt noise, smoke or an engine temperature warning needs prompt attention. Switch off and call for guidance.
