Battery
- Sounds like
- Nothing, rapid clicking, or a slow, tired crank
- Also look for
- Dim dashboard lights, corroded terminals, battery older than about 2 to 3 years in UAE heat

Answer two quick questions. We'll show the likely causes, what you can safely try right now, and send your answers and location to a Mechanics technician in one tap.
What happens when you press start or turn the key?
Hazards on, stay safe, and stop pressing start after three tries.
Repeated cranking drains what's left in the battery and can overheat the starter motor.
Tick them off as you go. If none of these gets you moving, send us what you found and we'll take it from there.
Don't keep cranking for more than 10 seconds at a time, pour water on a hot engine, or try to start a car that has been sitting in floodwater. Water drawn into the engine causes severe damage.

Needs the workshop

Most people think of flat batteries as a winter problem. In the UAE it's the opposite. Under the bonnet on a summer afternoon, temperatures climb well above the air outside, and that heat speeds up the chemical wear inside the battery and evaporates its fluid.
The result is a battery that works perfectly on Thursday and is dead on Friday morning, with little warning. That's why a battery that would last four or five years in a cooler climate often needs replacing much sooner here, and why we test the battery first on almost every no start.
If your battery is more than two summers old and you've noticed a slower crank, it's worth a quick test before it leaves you stranded. We check it as part of any battery service or car inspection.
Lights need very little power, the starter needs a lot. A battery can light the dashboard but still be too weak to crank. If the lights stay bright and you hear one click, the starter motor or its connection is the more likely cause.
Sometimes. Flat batteries, corroded terminals and key fob batteries can often be sorted where the car is, depending on location and availability. Starter motors, fuel pumps and electrical faults normally need the workshop, and we can arrange recovery.
If the car starts after a jump and keeps running, the battery is the likely problem. If it starts after a jump but dies again, or the battery light comes on while driving, the alternator is not charging it.
Hold the fob directly against the start button and press start with your foot on the brake. That usually works with a weak fob battery. Replace the fob battery soon, or send us a message if it still isn't recognised.
Yes, if done correctly with the right connection points. Many modern cars have dedicated jump terminals under the bonnet. Connecting in the wrong order can damage electronics, so if you're unsure, let a technician do it.
It depends entirely on the cause, from a battery to a starter motor or fuel pump. Send us your car details and what happens when you press start, and we'll tell you the likely cause and give a written quote before any work.
No. Water in the engine can bend internal parts the moment it tries to turn over. Leave it off and contact us. Our flooded car repair team will advise on recovery and inspection.
