What your pre-purchase report looks like
Each finding gets a rating, a photo and a plain note on what it means for you. The card below is a made up sample with fictional values, not a customer's car.

What a clean report cannot promise
An inspection records what can be checked on that visit. Internal wear, faults that come and go, and damage we cannot reach may stay hidden. A clear scan does not prove a car has no faults, and no inspection guarantees future reliability.
Repairs found are quoted separately
If something needs work, ask for a written repair quote. A finding is not a confirmed diagnosis or a fixed repair price until it is tested.
Pre-purchase inspection cost in Dubai, as a guide
Dubai guides run from about AED 299 to AED 1,100. What decides the number is the car, the checks included and whether a road test and report are part of it.

The RTA test vs a pre-purchase inspection in Dubai
Both look at the car, but they answer different questions. The RTA test asks if the car is roadworthy today. A pre-purchase inspection asks what you are really buying.
RTA technical test
- Purpose
- Official roadworthiness check to register, renew or export a car with Dubai plates
- Where
- RTA approved test centres such as Tasjeel, Shamil, Wasel and Mumayaz
- What it looks at
- Brakes, tyres, suspension, lights, steering, engine emissions and chassis
- Result
- Pass or fail
- Cost
- AED 170 for a light vehicle
Pre-purchase inspection
- Purpose
- A buyer's condition check before you pay, so you know the repairs and running costs ahead
- Where
- Our independent workshop in Al Quoz, Dubai
- What it looks at
- 54 points, from leaks, gearbox and cooling to paint, repairs, electronics and a road test
- Result
- Written findings rated OK, attention, fail or not checked, with photos
- Cost
- About AED 400 to 1,100 as a planning guide
A car can pass the RTA test and still need a gearbox, a cooling system or paintwork. Passing tells you it is legal to drive, not what it will cost you. Our inspection does not replace the RTA test or produce an RTA certificate. Fees and centres from the RTA vehicle inspection service page and the dubizzle guide to vehicle testing in Dubai, checked 16 October 2026.

What we check on imported and non GCC spec cars
GCC spec cars are specified for this region's heat and dust. An imported car can be a good buy, but its history is harder to read, so the physical evidence matters more.
VIN, spec label and listing compared, so the car is the model and spec you were told.
Radiator, fan and AC checked under load, because a Dubai summer is a hard test for any cooling system.
Cluster, units and wear compared with the mileage, since a swapped cluster can hide the real distance.
Silt, corrosion on connectors, water lines and mismatched airbag or panel parts.
Ask the UAE dealer whether it will service, update or recall the car by its VIN before you buy.
Dubizzle buyer tips before the inspection
Most used cars in Dubai are found on listing sites. A few steps before you meet the seller make the inspection quicker and the answers clearer.
- 01
Ask for the VIN and registration card photo
A serious seller shares them. They let you confirm the model, year and spec before you travel.
- 02
Check the spec in the listing
Ask the seller to confirm GCC spec in writing. If it is imported, see the section above.
- 03
Compare the photos with the car
Panels that look a different shade in listing photos often mean a respray. Ask why.
- 04
Ask for invoices, not only stamps
Gaps in service history matter more than the mileage. Invoices show what was really done.
- 05
Ask for the car to arrive cold
A cold start shows noises and smoke that disappear once the engine is warm.
- 06
Ask about any bank loan
A car still under finance needs the bank's release before the ownership transfer.
- 07
Hold the deposit until the report
Pay nothing until you have read the findings, and then pay by a traceable method.

Walk away signals
The seller refuses an inspection, the VIN does not match the papers, the engine is always warm when you arrive, or the price is far below similar listings with no clear reason.
Booking a pre-purchase inspection with Mechanics
From the listing to a clear answer in four steps. You confirm the price before anything happens.
- Step 1
Send the listing
WhatsApp the link, or the make, model, year, mileage and where the seller is.
- Step 2
Confirm price and time
We confirm the price, the checks and a slot. You arrange the seller's agreement for the visit and road test.
- Step 3
We inspect in Al Quoz
The car comes to our workshop with its key and papers. The usual inspection takes about one to two hours.
- Step 4
Read the report
Written findings with photos on WhatsApp, normally the same day, and we talk you through anything urgent.

Three decisions the report helps you make
The inspection does not decide for you. It gives you facts, photos and likely costs, so the choice is yours and is easy to explain to the seller.
Buy with confidence
Mostly OK ratings and routine items only. You know what to budget for at the next service.
Negotiate or ask for repairs
Attention and fail items, with photos and a separate repair quote, support a lower price or repairs before the sale.
Walk away
Structural damage, flood signs, a mismatched VIN or a major gearbox or engine fault. The fee is small next to the risk.
Brand specific checks for popular used cars are on our Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover pages.
How we wrote and priced this inspection guide
Every price is labelled as a guide with its source, and the checklist is written out in full instead of a points claim you cannot see.
Sources we checked
Our inspection page, the BritFix price list, the Rapido Garage price list, the ARMotors pre-purchase inspection page, the RTA vehicle inspection service page and the dubizzle guide to vehicle testing in Dubai, all checked 16 October 2026.
How we price
Third party prices are guides only. Your price for the inspection is confirmed in writing before the visit, and any repair we find is quoted separately.
What we send elsewhere
The official RTA test goes to an RTA approved centre. Warranty, recall and VIN history questions go to the official UAE dealer for the brand.
Who reviews it
The Mechanics workshop team in Al Quoz reviews this page when prices, RTA fees or the checklist change. Last update 16 October 2026.
Pre-purchase inspection questions
Cost, timing, the RTA test, imports and what to do with the report, answered first.
How much is a pre-purchase car inspection in Dubai?
A pre-purchase inspection in Dubai costs about AED 400 to 1,100 on our published planning range, depending on the car and the checks agreed. Other Dubai garages publish from AED 299 up to about AED 1,000. Mechanics confirms the total, including any VAT, before the seller brings the car.
What does a pre-purchase inspection check?
Our checklist covers 54 points in 7 areas. These are paperwork and VIN, engine and cooling, gearbox and drivetrain, brakes, tyres, steering and suspension, body, paint and underbody, electrics and AC, and a road test when safe. Anything that cannot be tested is listed in the report.
How long does a pre-purchase inspection take?
Allow about one to two hours at our Al Quoz workshop for the usual inspection. Extra tests, the condition of the car or restricted access can extend it. Written findings with photos are normally shared on WhatsApp the same day, and we confirm the handover time when you book.
Do I get a written report with photos?
Yes. Every finding is rated OK, attention, fail or not checked, with photos and a short note on what it means. Urgent safety items come first, and repairs we find can be quoted separately so you know the likely cost before you decide.
Is a pre-purchase inspection the same as the RTA test?
No. The RTA test is the official roadworthiness check needed to register, renew or transfer a car, and it gives a pass or fail. A pre-purchase inspection is a deeper condition check for the buyer, covering engine, gearbox, leaks, repairs and running costs. It does not replace the RTA test.
Can you inspect the car at the seller's home or showroom?
The full inspection takes place at our Al Quoz workshop, because it needs a lift and workshop equipment. The seller brings the car, or you can ask about collection with the seller's agreement. Any pickup charge and timing are confirmed before you book.
Can you tell if a used car has been in an accident or flood?
We can find physical evidence such as respray edges, filler, replaced panels, structural repairs, corrosion and water marks. No inspection can certify a car's full history, so pair our findings with the seller's documents and any history report you can obtain.
Should an imported or non GCC spec car be inspected differently?
Yes. We match the VIN and spec label to the listing, look closely at cooling and AC performance in Dubai heat, check the instrument cluster and odometer, and look harder for flood and repair signs. Ask the UAE dealer whether it will support the car before you buy.
What if the seller will not allow an inspection?
Treat it as a warning sign. Most honest sellers accept an independent inspection when the buyer pays for it. If access is refused, important questions stay unanswered, so decide whether you are comfortable buying without that information before you pay any deposit.
Can I use the inspection report to negotiate the price?
Yes. Findings rated attention or fail, with photos and a separate repair quote, give you clear reasons to ask for a lower price or for repairs before the sale. The report supports your decision, and you choose whether to buy, negotiate or walk away.
Is it worth inspecting a car that is still under warranty?
Usually yes. Warranty does not cover accident damage, wear items or missing services, and some warranties need a full service record to transfer. An inspection finds tyres, brakes and repairs that warranty will not pay for. Confirm the warranty status with the UAE dealer by VIN.
Where can I get a pre-purchase inspection in Dubai outside the dealer?
Mechanics in Al Quoz, Dubai is an independent workshop that inspects most makes before you buy, from Toyota and Nissan to BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover. You get a confirmed price first, then written findings with photos. Warranty and recall questions go to the official UAE dealer.
