What does brake repair cost?

The part that has failed matters more than the noise it makes. Use these indicative Dubai budgets to plan your visit, then get a vehicle-specific quote before approving repairs.

WorkIndicative fitted budget including 5% VATWhat the budget covers
Standard brake padsAED 250–850 per axlePads for both wheels on one axle and routine fitting. New discs, wear sensors and caliper repairs are additional if required.
Conventional discs and padsAED 800–2,500 per axleA pair of conventional steel brake discs, matching pads and routine fitting on one axle. Specialist performance and carbon ceramic systems are excluded.
Brake fluid changeAED 150–400 per vehicleSpecified brake fluid and routine replacement and bleeding. Leak repairs or additional procedures for a hydraulic fault need a separate quote.
Caliper, hydraulic or ABS repairQuote after diagnosisThe cost depends on the failed component and whether it can be serviced or needs replacement. We confirm any additional diagnostic charge before proceeding.

Budget guide reviewed in October 2026. The numerical ranges include parts, routine labour and 5% VAT and are estimates, not fixed offers. Premium vehicles can exceed them. The initial inspection is free. Your written quote confirms the parts, labour, additional work, VAT and total for your car.

Start with what you feel

Which brake problem needs attention?

A symptom points us towards the right checks. It does not prove that a particular part needs replacing.

Grinding or persistent squealing

Metallic grinding can mean the friction material is worn away. Continued use may damage the discs. Squealing has several possible causes, so we inspect pad thickness, disc surfaces and fitting hardware before quoting parts.

Shaking when braking

Pedal pulsation or steering shake can involve disc thickness variation, runout or a problem at the hub. We also check for a sticking caliper and relevant wheel or suspension faults rather than assuming every vibration is a warped disc.

Pulling or a dragging wheel

Uneven braking, a hot wheel or a burning smell can point to a binding caliper, restricted hose or parking brake fault. Tyre condition can also contribute to pulling. The inspection checks both sides of the axle.

Soft or sinking pedal, fluid leak or reduced brakingStop in a safe place and do not continue driving if braking is compromised. Call for help arranging recovery. Topping up fluid or fitting pads alone does not resolve a hydraulic fault.
ABS, brake or parking brake warningTell us the warning colour and whether the pedal feels different. A diagnostic scan needs to be followed by checks of the affected circuit or component. A fault code alone is not a reason to replace the ABS pump.
Choose the work your car needs

Pads, discs or a deeper repair?

Repair decisions should follow the condition of the whole braking system. Replacing a worn item without addressing the cause can bring the same problem back.

Pad replacement

When the discs remain serviceable

New pads may be enough when disc thickness and surface condition are within specification and the calipers operate correctly.

  • Match the friction material and pad shape to the car
  • Replace the pad set across the affected axle
  • Check slide pins, hardware and wear sensors

Already know you need pads?

See our brake pad replacement service for pad-specific help.

Discs and pads

When the disc cannot be reused

Discs below their minimum thickness, cracked or damaged beyond the permitted limits need replacement. We check the cause of uneven wear as well.

  • Measure against the correct minimum thickness
  • Assess both discs on the axle as a pair
  • Check hub condition and matching pads

Steel and performance systems

Disc diameter, ventilation and material affect compatibility and price. Carbon ceramic brakes require a separate assessment.

Calipers and hydraulics

When pressure or movement is wrong

A sticking piston, damaged seal, restricted hose or leaking line needs diagnosis before choosing a repair. Some calipers can be serviced while others need replacement.

  • Check hoses, pipes and connections for leaks
  • Assess the master cylinder or booster when indicated
  • Use the specified fluid and bleeding procedure

Rear drums and parking brakes

Where fitted, shoes, wheel cylinders, cables and electronic actuators are assessed separately.

Know why a part is recommended

An inspection that leads to a clear quote

Tell us when the symptom happens, whether the brakes were recently repaired and which warnings appeared. That history helps us focus the inspection.

Condition and measurementsPad wear, disc condition and minimum thickness help separate parts that can stay from parts that need changing.
Checks matched to the faultUneven wear, leaks and warning lights guide checks of calipers, hydraulic pressure, wiring and wheel speed sensors.
Approval before repairReceive the recommended work and price in writing. Ask us to explain an item or compare an available parts option before deciding.

A brake fluid change is a separate service from replacing pads. Fluid specification and replacement timing should follow the vehicle manufacturer. We check whether the request is routine maintenance or whether a leak, air in the system or another fault needs resolving first.

For electronic parking brakes, the model determines the required service mode and any setup after fitting. Hybrid and electric cars also use friction brakes alongside regenerative braking. Low pad wear does not rule out disc corrosion or a caliper fault.

Your registration details or VIN help identify the correct equipment. Two cars with the same model name can use different disc sizes, pad shapes or wear sensors. This matters particularly when a performance brake option was fitted from new.

We welcome enquiries for Japanese, Korean, European and American cars in Al Quoz. Share the make, model, year and any previous modifications so we can confirm parts and the required work before your visit.

Brake repair questions

Practical answers about cost, timing, parts and the next step for your car.

Talk to the workshop
How much does brake repair cost in Dubai?

For budgeting, allow around AED 250–850 for standard brake pads on one axle, AED 800–2,500 for conventional discs and pads on one axle, or AED 150–400 for a routine brake fluid change. These indicative fitted budgets include 5% VAT. Premium parts and hydraulic or ABS faults can cost more. Mechanics.ae confirms the work and total in a written quote after inspection.

How long will my car need to stay?

A straightforward pad or disc replacement may be completed within a working day when the correct parts are available. Diagnosis, seized components, hydraulic leaks, electronic parking brake faults or ordered parts can take longer. Send your model and year before visiting so we can check availability and give you a realistic collection time.

Do squeaky brakes always need new pads?

No. Squealing can come from worn pads, vibration at the pad or caliper, contamination, or disc surface condition. A noise alone does not identify the repair. An inspection checks the friction material and related components before deciding whether cleaning, servicing or replacement is appropriate.

Can you skim the discs instead of replacing them?

Only where the vehicle and disc manufacturer permit machining and the finished disc will remain within the required limits. Cracks, excessive corrosion, heat damage or insufficient thickness can rule it out. Carbon ceramic discs require their own assessment. Ask for the measurements and the reason for the recommended option.

Can I drive with a brake or ABS warning light?

A red brake warning, sinking pedal, fluid leak or reduced braking needs immediate attention. Stop in a safe place and arrange recovery if braking is compromised. An amber ABS warning may mean anti-lock assistance is unavailable even if the pedal feels normal. Follow the vehicle handbook and contact the workshop promptly. Do not assume that clearing the warning repairs the fault.

What parts and warranty will be included?

The written quote should identify the parts brand, part numbers where applicable, the axle being repaired, labour and any additional items such as wear sensors. Genuine and suitable quality aftermarket options can be discussed for your vehicle. Ask for the applicable parts and labour warranty terms on that quote because cover depends on the selected components and work.
